Re: Counterfeit Bottles

The 1937 Porto Rocha bottles almost seem like counterfeit as the labels look brand new. I expected wax covered tops (like Warre's 1960), wilted labels, hard to read lettering...

At over $600 bucks a pop, you better hope its real and aged appropriately.

No complaints yet.

1982 Dow's Colheita Port

Chilled before opening. Very light color. Aromatic, almost flowery is best to describe. Very strong. Ironically, I don't care for the scent at first, so hesitant upon "bottom's up." First sip, wonderful fruits. Very smooth with a long, long finish. Second sip, a bit of candy in there somew...

Re: 1976 Quinta do Noval Colheita Port

Hey Andy,

Didn't this one win some award or something last year and didn't we dispute it???

I need to try this one again. First one was unmemorable.

I have a Dow 82 Colheita that I am going to open soon.

Re: Graham's 2007 offering just released

Hey Guys, Sorry for not replying sooner... Wine-searcher is a good tool, but be very weary of who is on it. I refer people all the time to the site, especially when I get the "I found a bottle of so and so in grandpa's closet, label is blurry, but it says port, so how much is it worth?" ki...

Cork Warning - list 'em here

Dow's Quinta de Bomfim Vintage 1996. Fragile cork. Tried to remove it slowly, it simply breaks apart. And this is the second time with this bottle. A must for port tongs. Maybe there should be a list here to let others know of corks that are a pain to open. I've pushed corks through, but haven't had...

20 Year Old Tawny Port by Graham's

More from the wine tasting last week. Am pouring over my notes... An incredible tawny. Had the Graham's 10 year a few times and really liked it. Subtle, smooth, fruity. While the aroma of oranges are present, they aren't overwhelming. Almost yellow in color. First sip is with nutty flavor but not su...

1998 Graham's Quinta dos Malvedos Vintage Port

This one is tough. Can't put my finger one it. Nice berry aroma, dark red color. First sip; fruity, but not overwhelming. Somewhat grapey. Kind of dissapointed. Waited a few moments, tried again. Same result. Slightly sweet? Check. Slightly fruity? Check. Slightly, slightly, slightly. Doesn't feel f...

Re: 1999 Quinta de Roriz Vintage Port

Interesting. I am a fan of these Quinta de Roriz ports, they tend to be cheaper yet scoring high. Hard to find though, our distributor's don't have anymore and we receive a lot of requests for it (plus searches). I had the 99 and loved it, had the 2004 and thought it was just okay. Obviously needed ...

2003 Graham's Vintage Port

Wow. What an incredible vintage and it hasn't peaked yet. A fully packed port. First sip, very fruity, cherries (has to be dark) burst out. Got a hint of spice. Very aromatic too. I think I got plums more than anything. Dark red color. Second sip, smoother than the first. Got the plums in mind, over...

Re: Pre-Arrival Offering: 2007 Graham's VP

Thanks for posting this, Roy. By the way, I am off to the Hilton here in Costa Mesa around 5pm today. Wine Warehouse, one of my distributors, is holding their O-Nine Spring Tastings. Graham's, Ramos Pinto, Blandy's, and Quady will be there. I am promised some good appy's too. Shrimp, crab, etc. I ca...

Re: Port Suggestions for around $20-$30

Ramos Pinto Collector Dow's Crusted Port A bit out of the norm, but fascinating choices. Stirs up the LBV's vs. tawny vs. ruby debates. Both are very fruity, with good character. Good ice breaker too. White ports tend to fall into this category, but only a few are good. Ramos Pinto Lagrima is one, b...

10 Year Old Tawny Port by Dow's

Really popular, so I had to try it. Sadly, disappointed. While I am usually a fan of tawny ports that contain toffee and or caramel, this one was missing something. Can't put my finger on it. Overpowering aromas when first opened. But my wife, neighbor, and I had mixed reviews. While I do like the D...

Were you able to walk after all this?

Re: Your best Port wine find on a restaurant wine list?

The Cellar, in Fulleton, California. Has Graham's 30 yr tawny for $25, Dow 2003 vintage among its inhabitants... I mention this place also because of its history. Apparently, before Disney opened his park, he owned the Hotel California in this city. He put his friends and guests up here and below it...

Roy/Andy, Sorry, I try to get here when I can but a career, two businesses, wife (keeps me extra busy), two small boys, soccer, baseball, ay-yi-yi. And Kings and Ducks on TV almost everynight. Funny, I posted a few things awhile back but they never saved or made it on the forum...were there problems...
