On hot days I prefer Champagne, Kir (royal) or Sauvignon blanc. But then, when is it really hot in the Netherlands??
At this moment I,m drinking a slightly chilled tawny (Krohn Colheita 1994).
Not bad, not bad at all!

Well, this is not about a "good deal" in money-speaking, but about my finest recallection: about Niepoort. Few years ago I asked mr. Niepoort a question about the vintage 1997 and he kindly sent me two half bottles of the new vintage 2000 (Niepoort and Secundum) even before they were bottl...

Hi David, I'm very curious about your experience also. Personally the 20y old of Ferreira is one of my favorites among the tawny's, unfortunately very hard to find in the Netherlands. About three years ago I bought some bottles of Niepoort 20y, they were bottled about 8 years before, but I drank eve...

Prefered temperature of port?

Maybe the question has been asked before, but at what temperature do you like to drink your port? Personally I prefer to drink them "sligtly chilled", direct from my cellar, but maybe that's not common, because when I order a port (or a red wine) in a restaurant most of the time they are a...

A Niepoort LBV (year?) at an Englisch teaparty from a friend. We were with six girlfriends, five drank port, I had a glas of white wine. I tasted a sip from one of them..... and my addiction was born..... I still like to drink Niepoort, wether it is a vintage, a colheita or a 20 year old tawny! Jamm...

Haven't been able to follow or submit to the forum for over a year, but I still like to drink a good glas of wine or port. It's funny, but most of my female friends do like to drink a nice glas of port, non of my male friends!

Best, Monique.

I hope it gets better as I do have a full case of this wine...

I only had the Noval 1991 untill now, and found this one somewhat disappointing.

Good luck for both of us,

As I'm not such a great taster as Steven, Ronnie and lady Roots are, my tastingnotes are probably less representative. But, I did love to attend this tasting, and for who wants to know, my winners of this day were, rated at a 20 point scale: Taylor's 19 (HUGE wine! A mouth full!) Warre 18,5 (somewha...

We are having a New-years-eve party at our home, so no port, but a lot of beer, wine and champagne. But I already have a Graham's 1985 vintage standing right up for januari the first. (When I make it :) )

Leaves me to wish you all a very happy and healthy new year!!

I had a Quarles Harris 1977 over the last two days, and liked it very much. Very mature, but still some potential I think. There was not to much alcohol, I rather found it soft, wellbalanced, not to sweet.
I liked this.

Stilton and port

A few weeks ago, in a big supermarket I saw something I had never seen before. They had this large stilton on a wooden shelf. On top, in the middle they had stuck a bottle of port upside down into the stilton. The shop-assistant told me that it would take a few weeks for the port to ooze into the st...

I do have the same "temporary? problem" as Dave, untill now I've tasted perhaps 10 VP's in my life and 20 or so different colheita's, LBV's and older tawny's. So in my opinion I don't have so much to contribute. The second problem is that I really can judge for myself what Port I do like a...

The most still wines I prefer are French wines, followed by wines from Italy and then Austria. I'm not much into new world wines. From France for reds I like Bordeaux the most, but I also like Madiran and Cahors. Whites Alcase (Riesling) and Bourgundy. From Italy I almost like everything. Lovely Chi...

Yesterday I opened the Duque de Braganca.
I must say this is a fine glass of tawny port. Very rich and smooth. I like this very much.
I'm not shure which one I like most, the Niepoort or the Ferreira.
Guess I have to try them side by side to know.

As Roy said a few times in other threads, the 1995 seems to be an undervalued year. I have bought a bottle of Taylor and Fonseca and want to try them in a few weeks or so, when the temperature goes down. I've been looking to buy the Ferreira 1995 also, but can't find it in my country. When they tast...
