When I was making a trip a few years ago with my brother we ate in a 2 michelin star restaurant on the way home. The meal was perfect but when the desert arrived and we smelled the dish it smelled Corked! The gelatine (I cant remind the exact desert) was made of a certain wine which must have been c...

TN: 2004 Quinta do Crasto Old Vine Reserva

Had this tonight in a blind tasting with some friends. Quinta do Crasto 2004 Reserva Nice dark colour. Not a lot going on in the nose. Loads of oak and vanilla, made me think of a wine from the new world. Very polished in the mouth. Soft mouthfeel with a good concentration. Again a lot of wood, some...

Bjorn. I gave this negative response about the Taylor because IMHO there are better alternatives for the same price widely available. For some reason the prices of most LBV's are the same, good ones or bad ones all are between 12 and 18euros. So I did not want to give the impression that the Taylor ...

I totally agree with you, I had this bottle 2 days ago in a blind tasting and really liked it. My only problem with it was that it is a bit to good. It drank so easy, it was so lush and full with a lot more fruit and less acidity than I expected from an LBV. This is a bit in the same style of for ex...

Hi Bjorn, I opened this port 2 days ago and liked it a lot less than you did. I was in a tasting where we tasted 12 LBV's from 2001 so pretty funny you post now some TN on wines I had 2 days ago. I found that the Taylor lacked a bit of power and in the nose as in the taste I found it a bit boring. N...

I think that if you have Tasting Notes on wines you drank in a lineup. Which means you probably only had 1 glass of it and didnt really gave the wine the attention it might deserved. It might be better to make then 1 post like: TN: Line up Quinta ...... This way the readers gets an idea of how diffe...

I adore these white wines from Niepoort. Power but also so much minerality. And this for a very affordable price.

Im not much of an expert on port but the difference between an colheita or a vp would be the time it has aged on wood. Is there no date of bottling on the bottle? If so, you know if it is a vp or an colheita

1995 Quinta do Passadouro Vintage Port

1995 Quinta do Passadouro 26-01-2008 Open nose, filled with liquorice, sour cherries, wood. Also a very strange smell that i can only describe as the smell of glue which is prominent in the nose. In the mouth, velvety textured with a high acidity. Again liquorice combined with sour cherries covered...

Is there any generalisation you can make about Quinta do Vesuvio? I opened a 1994 a while ago but didnt gave it enough time to open up. It had so much power and deserved more time to open up. Now I also have bought the 1998 vintage. Is this a totally different animal than the 1994? I know 1994 is a ...

I would never use anything to filter my VP, filtering removes taste and especially it changes the mouthfeel. Unfiltered wine is the way to go, so why ruin it yourself? A bit of sediment wont kill you, it just shows wine lives and that is the whole beauty of the product. Decanting should be sufficien...

A really nice wine. Big, powerfull but with enough freshness so the balance in this wine is right. Although this wine delivers an amazing quality I prefer the Redoma and the Redoma Reserva from Niepoort since they have just a bit more minerality that makes them more special to me. This is just perso...

WOW, tasted this on a big wine event today in the Netherlands. Its the second time I had the oppertunity to taste this wine en jeez this is good! Had this port sunday evening. Drank it with some nice blue cheeses. Bottle was decanted for 3hours. Wow I really like this Port. This is so easy to drink. This is not a blockbuster but it is just so well balanced which makes it a real pleasure to drink. Ripe Fruit, chocolat, good acidity and freshne...

When you look at what people are drinking atm it's pretty obvious to me that the quality of a product has nothing to do with how it sells. So I guess with good marketing almost everything can sell. The question is, do you want the brand "Port" in the highend market or for everyone. Now qua...
