I have not been here in a long time but I am not a lurker or a stalker. Just AWOL a few years. I have opened some 92 Taylor and some Fonseca recently in honor of my son, Ian , who was born in 1992 as was your Taylor , Roy. Great ports. I still give them 99-100 points.
Cheers.

Re: Is anybody out there running out of cellar space?
I do not know if this adage is still true, but when I first bought a climate controlled storage unit , a wardrobe shaped Vinotemp 700 bottle in 1990 , the advice from some wine magazine said get a unit that holds 3x what you think you will need. That proved to be true, as we filled it and we had win...

Re: 1983 Ports at 30 years of age
A late post here but we opened the Taylor 83,( not their best year ever) and again, pleasantly surpised. A nice raspberry torte nose good mouth entry, lots of mild spice and fruit good finish . A solid 90 points.

Re: 1983 Ports at 30 years of age
There are no signs of TCA. There must be a few good bottles out there. More in the decanter so I will try it again tonight. Over the holidays, I plan to open a few more 83's Taylor( off year), Graham's , Fonseca. I know the 83's held much promise but have fallen off as they have aged. I think they a...

Re: 1983 Ports at 30 years of age
Must have been a shock wave in the "Force" Roy Sky Walker but I opened a 1983 Cockburn's to see if maybe, just maybe it was not corked. Then I saw this thread. The cork did pull firm--no corked odor. This has a very nice pale ruby amber color. Great nose no wet cardboard yet. The taste is ...

Re: TN: 1983 Taylor
I may try a bottle again soon. I have a lot of it. It has not been a super star of the 83 vinatge and not up to other Taylor vintges like 63, 66, 70 and 77 IMHO.
Parker gives it a 94 but I have never had a bottle I could give a 94 . I have given it a 92 on this board in the past.

Re: 1983 Graham's
Maybe something was up ( wrong) with this bottle, but it was fully mature, nice balance but no sign of decades of improvment. Maybe I will try another bottle soon and have something to compare.

Re: 1983 Graham's
I think it is fully mature . Tannins waning just a bit. It will maintain for proabably decades and be drinkabale but it will not get any better. It is very smooth and great now and I have a lot of it as it our anniversary year, but I would not hold a single bottle past 2013, but note Andy V thinks i...

1998 Fonseca Guimaerens
There are great bottles , not great vintages, a wise wine sage told me once. This 750 bottle opened this week was a blockbuster. Lots of fruit spice full motuh feel great finish. Up there with any great Fonseca. Not shown like this before. It has been very disappointing in the past. This bottle gets...

From a 375 at the BRIT wine acution/dinner -google BRIT.org and learn about this wine event. Decanted about three hours. Not too hot . Very dense very deep fruit on the nose, mid palate and a long finish. I would give it the board average of 93.5! Nice to try from a half bottle.I would think that the...

I have posted on this wine proabably more than any other on this board. Execpt for one leaky cokred bottle, it is always consistent. One of my all time favorites.

Re: 1988 Taylor Vargellas
My personal guess is that it is not going to get any better. Not much tannin, seems very mature if not passing its prime. The only reason to age this is if 1988 is a special birth, anniversary year. It just dawned on me that it is an 88 and I gave it 88 points

1988 Taylor Vargellas
Very nice when opened and 24 hours later still good, never hot. Good baked black berry pie nose, some very ripe plum also near a prune taste but not pruny. Nice nutmeg cinnamon spice. Nice big entry and mouth feel but a little thin after a few seconds but very pleasant middle and finish. Better than...

1992 Smith Woodhouse LBV consistant very nice aging well. I can't agree with the cellar tracker 84 average but rated by just one person. I give it 90 solid points.

Re: Origin of Port Communion Wine in Episcopal Churches
I have finally been able to make some time to collect data on the topic of the impact that the Episcopal Church's use of port for religious purposes has on the trade. The first reply that I recevied is from Duke DuTeil head verger of the Washington National Cathedral. They purchase 55 cases per year...

Re: Port Sippers
I started a thread on this very topic on this site several years ago. I found the post which was January 21, 2008. I got a few as a gift. They were unbalanced and broke easily. That said, they were kind of fun and did aerate the port and hit the top of the palate in a mist, releasing the flavors in ...

Re: Origin of Port Communion Wine in Episcopal Churches
I am working on a major work project but once I get it done, I will try to get a response from St. John the Divine Catehdral in New York, Grace Cathedral in San Francisco and the National Cathedral in D.C. to see what their annual budgets are for port.
