Re: Do You Make Bacalau at Home?
So are you asking if we take fresh cod and salt and dry it to make bacalau, or use already dried/salted bacalau and then prepare it in some way? The latter I've done, but the bacalau was very expensive here in Colorado, so I think I've only done it once. Your question sounds more like the former, wh...

Oh, and finished this off tonight. Really was nice for such an aged wine.

Re: What have you opened this week?
1991 Andresen Colheita How was it? I really like their Colheitas. Really good. I opened this to go with dessert at the end of an Easter dinner, and didn't take notes. Roughly I'd say it wasn't as good as S.Leonardo 40 (just had one of those, which of course costs more too), but lived up to my expec...

2016 Quinta do Vale Meão Douro Meandro 2016 Quinta do Vale Meão Douro Tasted these side-by-side, blind. I knew what they were, but not which was which. Others had no idea other than Portuguese. The first is a ~$20 wine, the second a ~$120. I actually preferred the Meandro, while the other three peop...

Re: Taylor buying Quinta do Portal
We can be sure to see the hotel modernized, as the rooms are comfy, but can use serious upgrades to the beds, bathrooms and aesthetics. The bones are still great and I can see this being a TOP boutique hotel in the next few years, for sure! Yes, I definitely see a good possibility of this happening.

Re: What have you opened this week?
We had one of these at our last Port club meeting. It was one of the really good old bottlings from 2011. Which bottlings did you guys open? Mine was a 2018 bottle that I purchased on winebid.com, for which I probably know the original buyer ;-) I still have two bottles from an earlier FTLOP arrang...

Re: What have you opened this week?
I brought a group of Oxford students to the Douro ... It was so nice to see that this young generation, without prompting ... was very emphatic in their new found appreciation for an adult beverage which they liked "a lot more than the wines we drink with meals." Success! [cheers.gif] [ya...

S. Leonardo 40 Year Old Tawny
After some cocktails and dinner I opened this to go with dessert. I thought I might have some leftover to enjoy during the week. But with my friends, we polished it off. It was excellent as usual.

Actually, I was off on one of the dimensions because the forklift does two bins at a time.

Re: Taylor buying Quinta do Portal
I would assume that means altering for larger production of table wines. Let’s be honest, mass produced “commodity” wines are what pay the bills. Not small production more expensive specialty wines. That winery is also already set up for that. They don't load grapes from the little picking bins lik...

Re: Taylor buying Quinta do Portal
Thanks for that link Andy. Commenting that “the vineyards have the potential to be mechanised in the future,” he also said that Fladgate would “modernise the winery over the next few years”, and use this updated facility to make both wines and Port from the Vale de Mendiz vineyards – new and existin...

Re: Taylor buying Quinta do Portal
I'm assuming he means the label. That way he doesn't have to backtrack. I see your point, but would hope they would admit to a mistake before making that claim. O.k., there is never a "2030 Taylor Touriga Nacional Douro Red," but there is TFP owned "2030 Quinta do Portal Douro Red .....

Re: What have you opened this week?
Broadbent Auction Reserve, Lot #1, 375ml. This was up for auction on Winebid, $10 + fee, which luckily is still %-based even at this low amount. (Spectrum Auctions introduced a minimum buyers premium a while back of $5 as I recall.) I had 11 other bottles purchased and filled out a case for shipping...

Re: Iron Maiden making a Portuguese Wine
On the one hand, I generally view such things like this as marketing gimmicks. On the other, a Van Zeller Douro wine of TN and Roriz is something I would definitely be interested in.

To my surprise, my local Costco has it, but as I recall, it was more than $69. I think it may have been $80.

Pop and pour, and probably could have benefitted from some decant time, but still very nice.
