1988 Smith Woodhouse Madalena Vintage Port

1 hour after opened Not very dense color, it's possible to see trough it. You can see thet already isn't a young Port. It's got a wide maroon rim, clear with sheen. Nice color. In nose, from the first moment, it has got very open aroma that flood you with an agreeable sensation. You notice very litt...

Re: Which 80's Ports do you prefer?

Eric and Andy, thank's for your advise about Quinta do Noval (it has arrived a bit late...... I just ordered some 1991). Also, before 1980, which Quinta do Noval vintage (not Nacinal) will you recomend? I've seen this vintages: 1975, 1970, 1963, have got good prices.

I think so. They only had one more 1994, the Dow's, but it was expensive, next time. I want to try some Dow's vintages, but aroud here it isn't easy. Even on the web, they become very expesive.

At the moment the only producers that I had liked every thing I've tried. Is: Taylor's (and Dow's, but I haven't try that much of Dow's).

Re: Should a retailer replace corked bottles?

Yes, I think so. As a distributor I did replaced corked bottles (really few ones) to the retailers. And as a consumer I always ask retailers to do so. Some years ago I did stop to buy in one of the best shops in my city, because they didn't replace a corked bottle. I only have done it 2 times more, ...

Re: Which 80's Ports do you prefer?

I've tried the Graham's 1983 . It was o.k., but nothing special. I was thinking that a brand as Graham's, all his Vintages would be above to the average. And this one did surprise me. I was waiting for something better, more special. I've tried second brands as Vargellas, Bomfim, even not top brands...

Port in Stockholm

I just have been there a for a week. And surprisingly Port wine is easier to find and cheaper than here in Spain. To buy alcohol you have to go to the monopoly state shop. You can check on his web the prices and where they do have the wine (in stock). But if you go to the shops, you may find older v...

Re: Which 80's Ports do you prefer?

Wow, not much talk about 1980 Taylor or 1980 Sandeman ; both are good vintages that are under the radar. Perhaps not epic vintages, but certainly drinking well now and worth seeking out. Bost are fairly rare in USA for some reason. At the end some one talk about Taylor´s Vintage (before was Vargell...

Re: Which 80's Ports do you prefer?

I would pick Grahams over Dow for any vintage or decade. Dow is a great port, but Grahams is always a home run. Thank you, Moses. I really apreciate your advice. I've some 80's Graham's and I hope I'll have some Dow's too, if I can. Then I'll tell you if I agree with you. At the moment I may open a...

Re: Which 80's Ports do you prefer?

Dow's and Graham's. Honestly any vintage of Dow's or Graham's would be a good choice. If the cost is close, then I would certainly go for the 1985 Graham's. David, thanks for the apreciation about the cost. This makes it more interesting. In the choice of a Dow's or Graham's of the 90's, if the pri...

Re: Which Port would you like to see at your local restaurant?

Nobody has chosen vintage port. I do like to find them in the restaurant, it could be a Guimaraens or Vargellas from the 80's or 70's, or a early 80's Taylor's, Graham's, Niepoort,... or any VP that it isn't very expensive. Like: Taylor's 1983 Graham´s 1991 Warre's 1980 Smith Woodhouse Madalena 1988...
