Re: 1983 Gould Campbell vs. 1994 Fonseca - which?
Well, we had the Gould Campbell last night. I have posted a note. It was outstanding. But if I wait until 2024 for the 1994 Fonseca, I will be 73 years old. I was hoping to at least open one in 2016 for my 65th Birthday. And then when will I get to open the 1996 Nacionals I bought?

Re: N.V. Quinta do Noval Porto Noval Black
My wife hates port, but when she had some of this at Dan Posner's annual tasting last month, she enjoyed it because it was not as overpowering as real VPs. She ordered three bottles - one to give to my mother and the other two for us. I thought it was very pleasant and enjoyable.

1983 Gould Campbell Vintage Port
1983 Gould Campbell Porto Vintage - Portugal, Douro, Porto (6/22/2010) Bought on Roy Hersh's recommendation. If there's one thing he knows, it's port. Double decanted back into the bottle at 7:30 am, recorked, and put into 57 degree wine fridge at 9:00am. Removed at 6:15 and opened for drinking at ...

Re: 1983 Gould Campbell vs. 1994 Fonseca - which?
I will go with the GC since I have yet to go wrong listening to Roy on Port. But would the answer change if I told you I have 3 bottles of the 1994 Fonseca, all bought on release?

1983 Gould Campbell vs. 1994 Fonseca - which?
I need to open a good bottle of Port for desert after a serious wine dinner on Monday. I have a variety of choices, but it looks like we're coming down to the 1983 Gould Campbell, which I bought after Roy went all GaGa over it, and the 1994 Fonseca, which I bought on release back in the dark ages. A...

Re: 1985 Quinta do Noval Vintage Port
I bought a half case of the 85 Q. de Noval on release and I have opened 3 or 4 bottles thus far. My experience is like others here - this Port is the high end of mediocre or perhaps a bit better than that. Since I just rated the 1977 Sandeman 84 points, and I think the '85 Q. de Noval is materially ...

1977 Sandeman Vintage Port
1977 Sandeman Porto Vintage - Portugal, Douro, Porto (11/26/2009) Decanted 5 hours. Day 1: This was disappointing because it was way too light for a VP. My brother in law thought it was lightly corked, but I disagree, and corkiness did not increase over the following two days, so I doubt it. The al...

Re: What is the average age of the Vintage Ports in your cellar?
Cellartracker says the average vintage is 1986.4. But that's only if you count 3 bottles of 1951 Offley Forrester Colheita.

When to decant 1977 Sandeman
I've picked the 1977 Sandeman as my Thanksgiving Port. I know it's not a transcendent Port experience, but it will be wine number 9 or 10 for 13 people, so I think I'll hold the Nacional to another day. We will get to the Port course at about 6:00 pm. Any suggestions about when to decant? Yesterday ...

Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?
I'll let you know when the week is over. Right now, my bid on the 1991 Grahams is still winning. Hopfeully no one here will steal it from me and I'll own 10 bottles by the end of the week.

Re: TNR: Graham's 1991
Thanks for the note. I can get the stuff for less that $35 a bottle! Sounds like a buy to me. And even if I open a few bottles young, what's wrong with spending time with a beautful 18 year old?

I've never had it. I have an opportunity to but some at a price that I think is a STEAL. Anyone have any recent experience.

NV Taylor Fladgate Reserve Port
Taylor Reserve Port NV. Yucch. This could only be described as awful. I think I would have recognized it as port in a blind tasting, but it would have been close. Extremely bitter without any fruit. 20 Year Old Tawny Port by Cockburn
Cockburn 20 year Tawny. This was a nice wine, albeit a bit thin compared to other 20 year tawnies I have had. Nice flavor of roasted pecans, moderate sugar and caramel. Matching nose. Very smooth to drink. My favorite of the three. This tasting note is one of several related tasting notes. Click [he...

10 Year Old Madeira by Blandy's
Blandy's 10 Year Madeira. A nice pleasant nutty flavor with light notes of chocolate. There was a sharpness on the palate which was almost citrus like and was the only negative characteristic. Moderate sweet and not cloying. This tasting note is one of several related tasting notes. Click [here] to ...

What would you rather have 1963 Taylor or 1970 Taylor?
I'm back to scouring the auction listings and AMC still has the case of 1963 Taylor at $2,000 minimum bid (the one that I passed om ;ast month) but there is also a case of 1970 Taylor at $1,100 minimum bid. The 1970, if I can get it at $1100 plus buyer's premium, looks like a steal, but what am I go...

I did not bid. My doctor had a few choice words for me and I may be out of the market for a while. But no one else bid either and if I get medical clearance next week, amybe we can get it next month.

Re: Dice roll - anyone want to share a case of 1963 Taylor?
That's kind of what I was thinking. The only question now remaining is whether I have the nerve to pull the trigger.I have to ask my two non-fanatic wine drinking friends "Are you crazy enough to buy a bottle of wine for $200?"Roy Hersh wrote: . . . At that price, how do you say no? . . .
