Re: What is your largest single Port purchase?

The one I remember fondly is picking up 3 case of Vesuvio 1995 at a price that I could call it a drinker.

Re: 2010 Weather and Growing Conditions

Thanks for the update, I suspect it might be quite an interesting UK vintage, especially red clones, if there is such a thing. Hopefully the port vintage is sublime :) For one I enjoy the trials and tribulations of making great port and wine.

Re: Why Ports over table wines?

I drink more table wine. I enjoy more Port. Hah! I agree with that! I've started drinking more tawny port as a starter before having wine. You can blame my trips to Portugal for that. Here here! (UK parliament's phrase of choice). Port is more "reliable", wines have highs and lows just li...

Re: TOP PORT IN FIRST HALF OF 2010?

I had a Niepoort 1970 which was just a joy. I wasn't too hopeful, house disposal etc., but it was a joy. Having met Dirk on several occasions the connection was there, I could picture his father with a "young" son juggling the vintage and family. I am very fond of the Niepoort ports and wi...

Re: Your preference in Vintage Port, 2000 or 2003?

2000, my first "real" port experience. I was blessed by Niepoort at a very drinkable phase and it got me hooked. I cannot put into words the experience it was magnificent, provoking, I wondered how I had missed the experience for so long. Reviewing my notes I have tasted more 2000's than 2...

I look forward to one day discovering the Douro, it is not too far from UK after all....just afraid if I do I will want to go a lot :)

TN: 2005 Casa de Casal de Loivos

Dark crimson through to the rim. Muted nose with a subtle mix of red berries and a touch of oak. Good acidity and freshness. To start with a little hollow in the mouth, after a few hours the fruit starts to fill the whole mouth leading to a long finish with a faint touch of vanilla and spice. Lovely...

Re: What region in Portugal do you want to explore next?

I have always had a soft spot for the Arinto grapes from bucelas but there are not that many so it doesn't count as an exploration. But I do plan to pick up those I can next spring to enjoy in the summer.

I would second/third Dirk Niepoort and Cristiano van Zeller and also interested to hear from Christian Seely/Antonio Agrellos.

Only partaken of 3 if I recall correctly. Vesuvio is by far my favourite and as Andy said in his tasting note it is stunning to drink young.

Re: Would you buy VP if it had a screw cap?

I am with Glenn, I would want some research and ideally the ability to do a comparable tasting at multi decade age to see how the cap material/oxygen transfer etc. had influenced the bottle development.

Tricky to answer really since it reflects my exposure/points of reference.

I would pick Meao and Portal.

Re: What's your favorite DOC Douro Wine in 1st half of 2009?

Probably a Casa de Casal de Loivos 2005 followed by a Crasto Reserva 2005. Tried a Passdouro 2005 but I think it needs a little longer.

Re: Which Port shipper, has the best website?

The only one I read with any frequency is theVintagePortSite for monthly weather reports, I find these very interesting. I am interested to see whether Churchills port blog grows to be something with regular updates. In the last year I have only looked at Quinta do Vesuvio, Quinta do Noval and Niepo...

Enjoy :)

For me it comes down to looking at some favourites if the qaulity/price is right. Right now looking at the economies I think that it would be a brave house to declare.

I have somtimes tripped on incorrect entries, they were pretty obviously the wrong price and I could guess what they meant :| Other than that I have foound them OK but do remember they are a broker.
