Re: Offline in Los Angeles Area -- 2023 version
Unfortunately, it’s looking like that’s the week my MiL is targeting for a knee replacement. I’m going to have to bow out of this time, sorry all! Really itching to get back to see you all in person again (it’s been too long!).

Wow, what an awesome piece of history. Always love the “custom” labels for older bottlings

Love when older bottles manage to find their stride after a few suspect moments. I feel my heart always drop a bit before recovering as I wonder “is this gonna come around??”

Tough to tell how many commitments there are, but if there’s room for one more, I’d love to come to town! It’s been too long since I’ve seen most of you.

I love how much longevity these have, it’s the kind of stuffing that makes me think they could outlive me.

2018 Vallado LBV
Seemed to hit its stride after about a day open, stored at about 60F in the front of the wine fridge after opening. Nose: Blackberry Lemonade, bit of a jammy aspect, touch of violet. Palate: Plenty of blackberry lemonade across the palate, touch of a meaty bacon note in the middle, and more of a str...

Re: Van Zellers & Co Port Aged Underwater
Yeah, just visually the level of wear and corrosion on the barrels from Jefferson’s Ocean hint they undergo a heck of a lot during their time on the boat. I’m not sure the bottom of the ocean is very similar. I suspect this is mostly novelty (especially combined with NFTs), but even if it’s not, mig...

Ditto on the ‘95s, they were downright cheap during the financial crisis flash deal site days around 2010. I wish I’d gotten more.

Re: How long to decant -94 Graham for instance
375s are great! I wish I saw them more often for nicer stuff in my neck of the woods, exactly for the reasons you mentioned. As for temp, once you decant it’s a game of physics, the warmer the wine is, the more air interaction you’re gonna get. I prefer decanting at cool room or cellar temp, partial...

Totally agree with Andy, the one thing I’ll add is that if you have a lot of 375mls, they often mature more rapidly than their full size (or jumbo size) cousins.

Re: New Port Category in 2022... Drum Roll
Regional designations would be cool, but I wonder if they would stand out over other variations in farming, slope aspect, winemaking decisions, etc. With advances in farming over the last 40 years, I’m growing more of the opinion that AOCs do much more to defend traditional practice/grapes than they...

Yeah, other than echoing that I’ve also had some 77 and 85 Ferreira (IIRC) in the same shape bottle, I don’t have much to add. Cool looking find though, I’m glad you shared the pic.

Re: Reliable online shops for vintage port
I’d recommend EuropeanWineResource.com, if they’re willing to ship to you. Have ordered from them over the last decade and always gotten great bottles. Not usually the cheapest, they’re still usually very reasonably priced though. Tcwc is also a fav, as was previously mentioned. Sent from my iPhone ...

Ooof, that’s still a heck of a price, though I imagine they’re in no rush to get it sold.

I’d be open to trying that. There are some appropriately quaffable PNW wines in cans as of late, don’t see why that couldn’t work too.
