Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?

Seems like Small Potatoes to fake a $150 bottle. Understand what you are saying, Glenn, but an easy roll of the dice. Actually, by numbers, the most faked wines are less than $20 a bottle. No reason to think yours is a fake. But it had to come from someone who’s been there in person and was actuall...

Opened a mag of 1975 Porta Dos Cavaleiros Reserva for my typical 50YO wine before midnight. Stunning and still fairly fresh. The burgundy bunch at our NYE party took seconds.

As they (used to) give out 'verde' cards in the US, does Portugal issue a Ruby Card or a Tawny Card?

Impressive wine list at Soby's in Greenville, SC. 2900 bottles on the list.
The 78 was stunning and still young. Anyone know the grape blend?

They were quite impressed. Served blind, thought it was a super high-end Portuguese bottling.

Re: Durand Port Version

Some of us online here got into a group buy to make and purchase that longer version a while back. It is interesting to me to see that they now are selling it to the public. Maybe they made more than they sold to us and are getting rid of them, or they decided it was a viable product and made more....

Been drinking these slowly over time. Still have plenty of life left. Reduced at first, turns to an oxidative style nose with bruised apple, ginger and dried unsulfured pineapple. Palate shows no oxidation, great body and acid balance. Impressive for the age. Drank even better the next day (after ar...

24 Noval Vinha da Marka at $50 each on clearance. $250 retail. Hope I like em! Wow. That’s a steal. I assume they were mis-priced? Regardless, a steal! Nope. It was advertised as $250 retail, on clearance. Just had bought a case of white Rioja for $5 each, normally $25, then they sent me this offer...

Saw these on AliExpress a while back. They also sell a closer knock-off for the Durand but at $85, didn't seem worth cheaping out.

Re: 1982 / 1983... is it really a split declaration?

You know my feelings on 1982 vs. 1983 and I do agree with the Port trade that this pair was a fine example of a "split declaration" regardless of what TFP and SFE did. At an event on Monday with local Somms, we had a big discussion about these two years. Coincidentally, I just bought a fe...
