Re: Best vintages for LBV

Thanks for your reply Andy. I guess that is the problem, as I don't have much experience with LBVs. I'd say off the bat, my favourite so far is the Noval 2007 Unfiltered, but then I have tasted so few it isn't very meaningful. I did taste the 2011 Graham's LBV, but was not struck by it, in particula...

Best vintages for LBV

Hello, I was wondering if anybody had a take as to which years are best for LBV - years with many declarations as the vintage is good, but then the best wine is usually put in the vintage port, or years without declaration because the best wine could end up in the LBVs or single quintas. Or is it to...

Thank you! I really enjoyed tasting the two ports like this.

2011 Fonseca Vintage Port

I rarely taste port and am more of a table wine drinker, so please bear with me... I thought it would be interesting to open both a Graham's 2011 Vintage Port and a Fonseca 2011 Vintage Port at the same time before they both close down (should they close down) and this is my wine tasting note (inclu...

Re: What are yout Top 3 Houses for VP?

To be honest, I haven't tasted too many VPs. Perhaps from 7 different producers. The ones that I have preferred so far are:

1) Taylor
2) Graham
3) Fonseca

Re: 1991 Quinta de Roriz Vintage Port

I purchased the bottle at the LCBO (Liquor Control Board of Ontario) in Kingston circa 2000. Not entirely sure of where it was between 1993 when it would have been released and 2000 when I bought it. [shrug.gif]

1991 Quinta de Roriz Vintage Port

Quinta de Roriz Vintage Port 1991 The cork simply disintegrated into a dry powder. I ended up pouring it into a decanter through a cheese cloth. The port appears to be rubis colour, with a deep see-through red. Aromas of cherries, turkish delight and prunes with a bit of liquorice are to be found. I...

Graham's 2011 in the VP category, and Taylor's 20 year old Tawny in the tawny category.

Re: At what age did you start drinking Port?

First tasted Sandeman's Ruby when I would have been about 18-19.

I've only really started getting into port in the last year or so, so 40.

Re: Will there come a point at which you stop?

I have already switched to purchasing new bottles only to replace what I drink. That being said, the selection can change and if my passion for port grows, port will displace (or not) the white or red wines. The way that I enforce this is by having a wine fridge that is full. My significant other is...

Re: For newbies

Though I've tasted port on and off for the last 20 years, I would average perhaps a bottle a year if that much. I have become more interested in port since early this year and have focussed on 2011VP (Graham and Fonseca in particular). Perhaps it is the other way around. Tasting 2011VP has gotten me...

Re: What is the BEST Port you've had during the 1st 1/2 of 2014?

It is certainly infanticide, but I must say, of all of the ports I have tasted in 2014 (admittedly not that much, as I drink way more "table wine", both whites and reds, than port), I was most impressed by tasting Graham's VP 2011 and Fonseca's VP 2011. Hard to say which I prefer, but I'd ...

1978 Fonseca Guimaraens Vintage Port

This is my first time posting on FTLOP, so please bear with me... [imnewhere.gif] 1978 Fonseca Guimaraens VP Removing the cork - it came most of the way up in one piece, really easily, which surprised me, and then broke about 1cm from the bottom. I was able to pull that part out as well. Upon openin...
