Re: Real Vinicola

The bottle to me looks late 60's. Please follow up with a picture of the port in the glass and a general review.

Good luck [cheers.gif]

Re: Snow headed our way. Better decant some Porto.

I have not had the 2008, but the majority of Malvedos are solid and often excellent. The 1986 Malvedos is excellent; while the '84, '87' & '88 are all nice as well. The only one I haven't cared for is the 1990 Centenary. I've had it 3 times and none of the bottles really impressed me. It's okay...

Re: George Sandeman Explains Why Port is Shrinking and How To Save It

Best "state of port" article I've read in a long time. Really spot on. Port wine industry needs to promote itself in F1. Perfect avenue to promote port wine considering its association with the UK and the emerging markets noted in the article. Sandeman was involved in sports car racing at ...

2008 Malvedos last night. One of the better Malvedos I have had!

The wax and foil are what keeps the saturated corks from falling out. Ask Ferreira on that one.

This week we drank an '85 Gould Campbell VP and started on an '11 Crasto LBV. We should finish off the LBV tonight.

I have a couple of these in the basement, but not sure which year. They are different than regular Douro wines for sure.

Discovered that this was leaking when I re-arranged my fridges, so figured I'd open it. It's a very nice Port and doesn't seem at all damaged by the leaking. I'd say 92 points for this bottle.
85 Croft has shed its poor reputation a handful of years ago. Same for 85 Taylor

Tym held a tasting up in Medford, MA for a number of Port loving friends and new guests including Moses and his beautiful wife as well as myself. Ports tasted (in order) were: 1989 Ramos Pinto LBV 1980 Dow VP 1985 Ramos Pinto VP 1985 Fonseca 1986 Graham's Malvedos 2003 Burmester Colheita 1989 Burme...

Re: What have you opened this week?

1991 Warre Vintage. Really light looking. Would've thought it was an odd Ferreira looking at it. Tasted older and more like Colheita. This vintage has a lot of variances. Decent, but not one I would put a score on.

4 bottles of 20 year Maynards for $34 each. A little more expensive than the last time.

Re: What have you opened this week?

1970 Dow VP that was most off bottle I've had in recent memory. Had an acrid, Elmer glue taste with off putting spirit. Totally undrinkable. From the same case with bottles that showed well. So sad. :(

Re: What have you opened this week?

1985 Ramos Pinto VP. Two RP vintages in one week! I thought the '85 was a leaker, but I think the bottle above it was leaking as when I removed the tissue paper, I could not find a leak. Not as pure and elegant as the '83.

Re: What have you opened this week?

Last night opened '83 Ramos Pinto VP. Initial pop and pour glass didn't pack as much punch as expected with Ramos Pinto. Nice fruit balance.

Expect to drink more over the weekend.

I would look to buy from the 70's and 80's when you can find them so opening either doesn't require any deliberation.

Fantastic price, Moses!
It's usually around ~$34 but was able get them to knock off a little. It's a popular port at the mom & pop liquor stores, or packy's (package store) as we call them in MA. The big guys don't carry it usually.
