Re: Port Vintages, Second Edition

The warehouse of the Académie du Vin Library is having an IT disaster, and re-sending many emails. Please disregard that email. Our fulfillment partner is updating our ecommerce channel integration and it appears there was a slight oversight on their behalf. The system re-sent notifications to custo...

Re: Port Vintages, Second Edition

The printer has sent me a speedy copy, the others being transported more slowly. And it’s fabulous. The pictures are brighter and higher resolution than in the first edition. The paper has been slightly lightened, both colour and weight, but is still properly opaque. And the author (says this entire...

Re: Port Vintages, Second Edition

George Sandeman has written, saying that the first edition appeared on Portuguese TV! RTP (their BBC), in a segment about our favourite wine and the Platinum Jubilee, from 01:29 to 01:32.

Port Vintages, Second Edition

Sent today: In 2018, after ten years of work, Port Vintages was finished. The book was done: I could emerge from my cave and discover who else lived in the house — wife! three children! cats! Who knew? Well, I believed it was done. The printing was beautiful, but the distributor’s packing was a dis...

Re: Free useful thing for those hosting a tasting

At a recent tasting the TN sheets looked terrible. Various possibilities need to be tested on multiple printers, as requested in issue 155. If you are willing to use your printer, please read and heed.

Re: Free useful thing for those hosting a tasting

Everybody loves a pork pie tasting. 20210904_Pork_Pies_2.png These pork-pie placemats were made by an abuse of the parameters, and there is discussion about whether their production should be regularised. Comment welcome, ideally in issue 153 . Failing to get image in post. It’s at www.jdawiseman.co...

Re: Free useful thing for those hosting a tasting

I’ve decided that the code should exist in a proper repository, to allow submission and discussion of issues , to allow others to contribute to the PostScript , and for better death-proofing. Hence ∃ github.com/jdaw1/placemat . Two issues ask a question of GitHub experts ( Software licence ; Documen...

Re: Port Vintages: Addendum

Hello lovers of Vintage Port, and readers of Port Vintages . It has been awhile, and I’m happy to tell you of some good news. As you doubtless recall, Port Vintages has an Addendum, with information newly come to light, and also repairing errors (the errors being much regretted). This is all in the ...

Re: Diabetes

Sorry about my slow reply — post just seen. You seem not to have eared your diabetes. Exercise; moderate drink; lots water; not overweight — we still don’t know the cause of type-I diabetes. Twice a day testing always resulted in blood sugar levels below those whilst I was in hospital. I reduced tes...

Re: ADRIAN BRIDGE

Questions for Adrian (rather in my style):
• In the new Croft super-cuvée, rather silky, what is the accent or diacritic?
• What proportion of wine writers are able to type an e-macron (“ē”)?
• Really, was this a good detail?

I’ll use the existence of a new decorative feature, Droplets , as an excuse to bump this thread and remind people that this splendid software is still free and open-source. Droplets flow around the page, attracted by positive charges, repelled by negative charges: http://www.jdawiseman.com/papers/pl...

most doctors are anti alcohol. My father has a PhD in tropical medicine, has been a General Practitioner, a surgeon, and an epidemiologist. He also had 30-year period of his life without a dry day (about which his eldest son is still impressed). Recently he’s had some dry days, but still very many ...

Re: Diabetes

I’ve been a type-I diabetic for 2¾ decades, and I drink Vintage Port. Indeed, I wrote the book on it. If you want somebody with whom to speak about it, contact me . Some guidance. • Much of metabolism is improved by the addition of water. Before a Port tasting I drink a pint (Imperial pint, not a li...
