Messias don’t surprise me. I can’t recall ever being wowed by their tawnys.
Nice tasting and surprised to see that 10 yr hold its own.

Re: 2024 Vintage Port declarations are starting
SYMINGTON FAMILY DECLARES 2024 VINTAGE PORTS ... I'm surprised to see so much Alicante Bouschet listed. I'm quite familiar with the grape (Mouchão!), but I've never seen it come up on lists of the 5 or 6 most common grapes used in Vintage Port. It’s replacing another grape variety that’s apparently...

Re: 2009 Smith Woodhouse LBV Port
2009 Smith Woodhouse LBV. Young and tannic fruit. Very good acidity up front and throughout the palate. Dark berries and chocolate dominate Long complex finish. 91 points. Just got a case of this. Wasn’t expecting it to be this good. Will probably put 6-8 bottles into my offsite for longer aging…an...

Re: Lots of new faces ... please introduce yourself
Yes, I knew that, which really sucks. The question is what does Grupo Melo do with it? Try to build back stock or slap the Krohn name on inferior Port and try to leverage the brand name? I do believe they got to keep the Ruby Ports ( VP, etc) with the purchase. But I believe TFP kept all the tawnys...

Re: Lots of new faces ... please introduce yourself
In fact, there has been a ...

Re: What have you opened this week?
1973 Quinta da Devesa Finest Reserve Branco Port. A year-dated "Finest Reserve"? That seems like an odd labeling. This bottle did not have the year sticker on it. But subsequent ones released they got permission and simply added an oval sticker with “1973” on it. However I know what it is...

New wine/Port bar in Oporto - oPortUno
Some of you already know Maria Tita. Some of you don't, but should. She used to work at Avepod and with producers like S. Leonardo and Blackett to name two. A wonderful person and very knowledable about Port. She's opened a new wine bar in Porto quite close to the Palacia da Bolsa. [cheers.gif] Here...

Re: Cork Lifespan
I completely agree with Andy, corks can last for very long periods of time. A half century ... without even trying. That would be equal to 1977 right now, (ok 49 if you want to be technical). But most of us collecting since the early days of this website (2005) and a bunch of us that are older, or ...
