Seemed like a great price if you compare on Wine-Searcher. I bought some.

What I like are the packages that include glasses with the Port as they are usually priced the same as the bottle alone. This was the case for my recent purchase of the 2003 Quinta do Portal VP.
I really don't believe in paying for packaging unless you plan on using it as a gift.

Just wanted to remind everyone that a lot of the Warre's 1995 LBV has just re-entered the marketplace. I paid $24 in New Jersey.

Calem 1970 VP

Found this unexpectedly in my cellar. Forgot I had it. Any comments from my friends out there on what to expect?

It is a very good question. I usually end up shopping locally and paying a little more because I do not buy in case quantities and the shipping costs on single bottles are not cost effective.
I seem to be older than many of the other members and prefer to try as many different Ports as possible.

Magnum 2000 Fonseca VP

I know that magnums do not appear in the retail market all that often. For those in the New York area, PJ Wine is offering 1.5L of Fonseca 2000 VP for $174.99.

Alan:
I will post my notes on the '83 Dow when I have finished the last glass. It is certainly a nice glass of Port but not in the heavy weight class. Might have had more stuffing if opened a few years sooner.
Expect your '85 Dow to be a better example.

Same store also had a 1999 Churchill's LBV. Don't see that very often. Thought it was a good buy at $18.99. Also had a 1999 Quinta do Noval LBV for $20.99. One I wasn't too sure about but picked up a bottle to try was the 1997 Osborne VP at $19.99. Osborne being a minor producer but the price was ri...

Warre's 1995 LBV Availability

I remember seeing a couple of posts that really praised this Port. Just wanted to let everyone know that my local retailer (who is clueless about Port) got in 6 cases so I think it has been re-released to the marketplace. I think the price was a little high ($23.99) but I really wanted to try it. Ha...

Some Quick Tastes of 2005 and an LBV

Local store was pouring two of the 2005 SQVP's with Robert Bauer, a representative from Fladgate. Right from the bottle with no decanting. Fonseca Quinta do Panascal was very dark with sweet fruit and ample grip. Rather approachable at this early stage. Taylor Quinta de Vargellas was closed and tigh...

2003 Quinta do Portal VP Gift Pack

Just a heads up that there is a nice package out there for the Holidays. I went to buy some of the Quinta do Portal 2003 VP and found they have packaged it with 2 Port glasses that have the notch in the stem. It was the same price for the bottle alone or in the git pack. I paid $59.99 here in New Je...

2003 VP Prices

Article in Wednesday's NY Times about increases in European wines due to the strong Euro has prompted me to do some quick buying. The increases will show up in the next couple of months and may run between 10 and 30 percent. Can I get some guidance on these prices available to me for some of the 200...

1975 Taylor VP

Originally planned on opening a Dow '83 this weekend. Instead found the '75 Taylor. I have heard the Ports in 1975 were weak for a declared vintage. Just have this one bottle. Could find nothing in the Tasting Notes. Has anyone some impressions to share?

Also, keep in mind one of the quirks of Port as opposed to other wines. Prices for Ports tend to be higher in winter than in summer in some stores as they move less slowly off the shelves in summer and are often discounted. That may enable you to pick up some Ports at better pricing from a local sto...

Port Glasses

I apologize if this has already been covered.
I own the traditional Riedel Port glasses but am considering buying glasses from Schott Zwiesel. Their glass and bowl are much bigger than Riedels. I often feel the Riedel glasses are too small and tapered.
Is there an ideal Port glass?

LBV Ports

I follow Roy's guide for decanting my VP's. What do forum participants do with their LBV's?
