Re: Bad try? (auction)

Thanks for the feedback. I didn't even place a bet in the end. The lot with the "less beautiful" bottles sold for a little over $200 (CAD$) per bottle. The lot with the bottles in better condition sold for almost $400 per bottle! I wanted to spend a maximum of $160. On the other hand, the ...

Bad try? (auction)

This week I saw these batches of Graham's 1977 (particulary 1199 and 1201) that seem reasonably priced. With the labels in this condition, I understand the price will drop, but what matters is what's inside. From what I can see, the bottles have been exposed to moisture, but I don't see any signs of...

Re: What have you opened this week?

Kopke 2003 White. It's not the same vintage but the 2005 is quite a bottle! I bought one and after drinking it I bought 3 more. Plus it was around $20 Can. (around 14 Euros). The 2008 is very good as well. I also had the 2003 two weekends ago and it was really good. Is the $20 Can. for a 750 ml bot...

Re: What have you opened this week?

Thanks Andy on the decant time! LOUISSS J asked me how was the 2011 Taylor's Vintage Port - overall quality: fantastic. Really a superstar that may be the next 1945/1948 for Taylor's. It needed 10 hours in decanter which is a lot more than I typically give ANY Port here in PT. That said, the tannin...

Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?

12x2011 Taylor Vinha Velha Not tried, but I just love the vintage. I truly suspect these will drink beautifully now and any year they are opened. Wo! Great buy! Where did you buy them? I had 4 in 2015 and one of the 4 was drunk. I plan to drink the next one in 5 or 10 years. Give news if you drink ...

Then there is TCA. How do you score those wines Glenn? ;-) Those are all good points. Ones that I recognize from judging barbecue, where we (at least theoretically) have a standard and a process by which to judge what the teams have produced for us. I'm not a professional wine judge, though. My &qu...

AH! ... Thanks for the answer. I'm not sure bu If a drunk an off bottle it was still very good. Finally everything will stay in my memory.

Quinta do Noval Nacional 1966

First shot with a Nacional (and probably one of the few in my life). I recently acquired it at a "good price" at an auction. Drink from the opening until almost 6 hours in the carafe (Quinta do Noval recommended 2 hours). When opening the Port seems good... phew! There was a little fruit l...

Re: Decant advice for 2 Ports

Finally I wrote this question too late because I already opened the bottles. The bottles were opened a little less than 3 hours before the start of the tasting. Everything was drunk 2 hours later, so between 3 and 5 hours. The Fonseca remained stable from start to finish but the Taylor seemed more f...

Decant advice for 2 Ports

Hi all,
I will open soon two bottles :
Taylor Fladgate Vargellas 2001 (375ml)
Fonseca Guimaraens 1998 (375ml)
They will probably drink up in 2 hours. How much carafe time do you think they would need?

Re: Krohns Sold

Of course they kept the stocks. That's all that they were after in the first place. That's why you see all of the old Krohn stocks released as Taylor Single Harvest Tawny instead of as Krohn Colheitas. They never needed the name or the Quinta, and this sale just proves it. I don't understand... TFP...
