Re: What have you opened this week?

Wow, that's quite a weekend! The assumption I'll make is that the Romaneira was one of the new(er) bottlings with the black & gold label. The older ones had the "40" in red and were distinctly different - for me, about 3-4 points better! The funny thing is the Romaneira has improved o...

Re: Cedovim Brand??

I have seen it out in the wild before but have never tried it. But for $20 for a 20 yo, it's definitely worth taking a flyer.

They absolutely do. The way I look at it is that Port is to be shared if possible and who better to share with it than lifelong friends?

Re: What have you opened this week?

I’ve just been to the recycling and dropped off a half bottle of Gould Campbell 1963, a magnum of Gould Campbell 1977 and bottles of Mackenzie 1963, Kopke 1966 Colheita, Churchill Crusted 2014 and Andresen 10YO White. I bet a small tear drop fell to the ground watching all of those lovely, empty bo...

Re: Offline in Los Angeles Area -- 2023 version

Unfortunately, right now I am only 50-50. I have some personal situations that have to clear up before I can decide if I can make this. All of my wine with the exception of a handful of bottles just went into storage as well since I am moving. I might have a bottle of '63 VP available if it doesn't ...

Re: Vintage - cork & label different years

How's the '92 Infantado, Scott? I have a few bottles but have never tried that year from Infantado. It's a very interesting port. I liked it a lot, would probably score it 90 or maybe even 91. The main reason I wouldn't score it any higher is because it lacks complexity. For instance, the only othe...

Re: What have you opened this week?

Ramos-Pinto 30 year old. I found this to be a quite nice 30 year old. I've had this wine quite a few times, but this particular bottle was exceptionally smooth and the secondary notes just sang! I have a couple of these in my basement (now in temporary storage as I'm in the process of moving). I've...

1985 Quinta Do Crasto VP. 10 hour decant. A light ruby collar. It's a very nice, easy-drinker.

Re: What have you opened this week?

I just decanted a 1980 Smith Woodhouse VP. I'll let it sit for about 7 or 8 hours before I have a full glass. The initial sip rght after decanting was nice and smooth. This was the first time I used my newly purchased Port tongs to open a bottle. It went so-so. I'll have to read some of the threads ...

1995 Ferreira. I decanted this a few minutes ago. The cork was shredded. As usual I have a small sample after decanting. This was drinking very nicely right out of the bottle. More later.

Re: Quinta do Rey

I own a bottle of "More than 40 Years" White Port from Quinta do Rey that I picked up cheap at an auction a few years back. It was bottled in 2018 and yes, it references Messias as the owner. Here are front and back pics of the bottle:

Re: 1994 VP Horizontal Tasting

Eric's scores were much more even for this tasting than mine were. I had a couple of really surprising numbers: 97 Vesuvio - one of the best bottles I've had; Stewart disagreed 96-97 Smith Woodhouse - also one of the best bottles I've ever had 93 Churchill 95 Taylor 94 Dow 92 Smith Woodhouse LBV 89...
