Re: What have you opened this week?

Enologo 40 y.o. Tawny. It's very good and it tastes like I'm drinking a glass of smoky, woody, Maple syrup / Butterscotch.

Re: What have you opened this week?

Kopke 2010 White Colheita - it’s OK but I’d prefer the 10 or 20YO blend. Poças’s 1996 Colheita - big, young and still very fruit driven. 1965 Quinta de Vargellas - rather nice, mature and very easy drinking (but not as good as the Dow 1963 also opened that not, but not by me). 1963 Quinta do Noval ...

Delaforce Quinta da Corte 1991 SQVP. The cork was 2/3 soaked and the Port looks more like a 20 y.o. Tawny, but a quick taste shows it's pretty decent. We'll see how it shows tonight after a 7 hour decant. Definitely some oxidation going on, but it's not unpleasant so far.

Re: Snow headed our way. Better decant some Porto.

I have not had the 2008, but the majority of Malvedos are solid and often excellent. The 1986 Malvedos is excellent; while the '84, '87' & '88 are all nice as well. The only one I haven't cared for is the 1990 Centenary. I've had it 3 times and none of the bottles really impressed me. It's okay...

I’m afraid I can’t do that- we kicked it last night.
Well then, you certainly were "fortified" for the storm. :D

Re: Cork Lifespan

Personally I just hope for the best for the bottles in my cellar. I've read about some Port enthusiasts that recork and then wax their bottles, but I think thy are few and far between. I'm unsure if the Producers routinely recork their bottles that they keep in their cellars. That's an interesting q...

Not a bad Port to be snowbound with. It was my favorite VP that I had in 2025. Enjoy, Andrew!

I assume this is from Krohn's stock? I've had the Krohn's 1976 Colheita a few times and it's very good. I have 3 more bottles left, one of which is scheduled to be consumed this summer.

Quinta dos Murcas 10 year-old Tawny (bottled 2025). This is fantastic for a 10 year-old Port. It will be interesting to see how it holds up over the next few days

Re: Portuguese Style Tawnies

The larger the vessel used to age the slower the aging process becomes. Thus it retains its youthful characteristics longer. If you use smaller vessels the aging rate increases. That’s a relatively simple way of describing it as there are many ways to age a tawny. But hopefully it helps a little. S...

Andresen Royal Choice 20 y.o. Tawny. It's a nice, easy drinking TWAIOA, but I would say it's more of a 2nd tier 20 y.o. Bottled in 2022 and purchased for under $40, so I won't complain.

1992 Quevedo Colheita, bottled 2019. Acquired via a FTLOP buying op. I have a few of these but did not open one until Friday night. Struck by the lack of nuttiness usually associated with tawnies about this age. Citrus fruits (various oranges mostly). Really lovely in a unique way. Half the bottle ...

Re: What have you opened this week?

I have a dinner with high school friends on Thursday, so opening a Taylor Fladgate vintage from our graduation year, 1985. I’ve opened three of these in the past spread out over about 20 years, and they seem to cycle between being lovely and being ‘meh’. Hoping it’ll be lovely on Thursday. 1985 was...

Ferreira Duque de Braganca 20 y.o. Tawny bottled 2008. It's a little cloudy, but otherwise it's fine. It tastes great and the balance between the sweetness and the zippy acidity is perfect. It's a delicious 20 y.o. Tawny.
