Re: Churchill's VP 2000 Magnum, $115

Yeah not too spectacular as you note, but for gettin a magnum, it is not too bad a price. Plus shipping is free.

Re: Do you fancy dry or sweet White Port?

I have barely had any of either style and only have had not so good dry white ports. So I will go with sweet as I have has a few good ones.

Re: Do you prefer Tawny or Ruby Style of Port

Okay I voted tawny/colheita because I am in a fairly decent colheita exploration phase at the moment and have kinda recently depleted my stash of 30 and 40 yr tawnies as I am out of value ports of all kinds these days. So I would ideally have voted both or 50-50 since nothing is finer to me than a b...

Re: A slightly different question

I don't have the pro version, but I had already been thinking about getting a subscription just to see if it actually is any better than the free version, so this will probably tip me over the edge. $141 for a '39, even if it's not a good year, seems like a very good price to me! So my Pro version ...

Re: A slightly different question

Good question! I would also like to find anything from 1939, which is my mother's birth year. I can find 1938 - my dad's birth year - but I'm having difficulty finding anything from 1939, let along something reasonably priced. Glenn, Keep an eye out. Last month I scored a 750 mL 1939 Royal Oporto C...

Re: Climate change . . .

If you say "we think that man's carbon footprint may have a long term detrimental effect on the planet but we can't prove it conclusively, but we do know that reducing our carbon footprint does NOT have any negative long term effects so we think that we should do it just to be safe" then ...

Re: Climate change . . .

Bryan, Thanks for your want of discussion on this....I wasn't at all taking any of it as an attack on me....just on several thousand (and overwhelming majority) of the world's leading scientist  heheheeee You asked, "If human activities are the primary cause of CO2 increase, why does the r...

Re: Climate change . . .

Derek et al., Yeah, i can go back and forth on the science of it all and agree that 125 years is not even a blip, since I do have a geology degree and studied this all at university. But even the data Bryan provides shows that the last 10 to 25 years as being among the warmest of these records, and ...

Re: Climate change . . .

Bryan, That is so NOT the case at all. I mean please indulge us as to all the info which would allow you to conclude this? Most of the reason Global Warming is now such a "hot" topic if you will is the fact that a vast majority of the world's scientists and virtually all climate models hav...

Re: Port Bottles and Global Warming

A more constructive argument would be to promote the notion of standard international wine bottles, with consistant heights, diameters and neck sizes, that can be machine sorted and cleaned for re-use around the world. Now Tom, there's an idea. Would work for everything from cough syrup, to soda, t...

Re: Port Bottles and Global Warming

Funny, but I was just discussing bottle weight with a friend this past weekend. I used to LOVE the heavier, sturdier, weighty feeling bottles. Something about them suggested the bottler wanted you to have this wine fully protected or it had stature. NOW, however, I have noticed that when buying a ca...

Roy, You'd love our Cine Vino group here in Anchorage. We meet monthly in one of (15-20) members homes and they host a full-on wine themed evening where we eat, drink, and discuss the wine theme of the night. Then we all settle in to watch a movie of the hosts choosing and end with a desert and disc...

I stopped buying current releases after the 2000 vintage mainly b/c the prices became to high upon release and has been noted in many other posts, prices are dropping on the secondary markets. I am only 36yrs and suspect I will be drinking 2-03's and many newer vinatges later in life. But rght now a...

Just rinse very thoroughly with super hot water, no soap, except very lightly on the outside. The hotter the water the more quickly it evaporates and leaves fewer spots. With wine glasses I use the special wine glass soap that doesn't leave any residue and again, very thoroughly rinsed in hot water ...

I've always thought the heat was just a touch too noticeable as well. The last bottle I opened about three weeks ago was at its best the first day right after opening. For this bottle , the second day had the alcohol even more pronounced. Now that didn't stop me of course, so there was no third day ...
