Re: 1994 Broadbent Vintage Port

Tonight I’d pretty much just echo and duplicate your tasting notes on this one Glenn. I’m content with this tonight, but it doesn’t totally scratch the want for an aged VP experience.

Re: 2000 Ferreira Vintage Port

Well, Younger self wasn’t wrong, albeit a bit off about only waiting 6-8 years from my first taste to try this one again. 10+ years later It’s a monster still. Popped and poured yesterday it was all just too much...alcohol, fruit, tannin. Not decanted, but left uncorked overnight and this eve it’s a...

Re: Do you believe this still to be a good time to be buying older vintages of Port?

Funny, I found July & August the best months to get minimum bids at auction accepted in both Port & still wine lots. I figured it was because folks went on vacation or holiday at that time and did not pay much attention to auctions. I found this out the first time when i had been bidding for...

In addition to Roy's recommendation for the 40 yr (which I have sadly not had yet) their 30 yr is one of my top tawny ports of all time to date.

Finally relaxing this weekend and watching whatever these awards are on t.v. with a Kopke 10 yr from a FTLOP exclusive offer some time ago...Thank you Roy [cheers.gif] The 3 cases that keep on giving! I also got to crack the Sandeman 30 yr tawny which finally made its way to Alaska after 7 months of...

Re: Sandeman Tawnies

Glenn et al., A case of Sandemans 30 yr finally arrived in Aaska and all I can say is wow wow wow. Port lovers and those (unfortunate) souls who can take it or leave it all have loved it so far. Really bright and a bit explosive on the initial pallate in a smooth round kinda way if you know what I m...

Re: Your favorite USA wine producer(s) is?

Current favorites, though not that i can afford these with any real regularity:
Pinot: Littorai, Kosta Browne, Rochioli
Cab/Blends: Verite, Chalk Hill, Chappellet
Gordon Brothers-Syrah, and Cab in select vintages and sweet too
Sine Qua Non-for sweets, can't afford their table wines at all.

Re: Sandeman Tawnies

Wow, those are great prices and what we pay wholesale in Alaska! I've always liked the Sandeman 20 yr aged tawnies for their classier and brighter showing. I've only had the 40 yr once and remember it being really really nice...not on the acidic front from my recollection, and it had a really really...

Re: Colheita & Public Knowledge Conundrum

Definitely great suggestions and discussion. Couple things related to getting port out there. We often offer custom port flights whether it is two or three of them so a patron can compare ruby to tawny, compare which one they like with a particular dessert better, or compare a basic ruby to a VP, or...

Yup, the Smith Woodhouse '86. :D Woohooo...Damn tasty for sure and it is getting placed onto our BTG menu as soon as possible! Thanks for the suggestions: I'll list as a Colheita with tawny in pare...

Colheita & Public Knowledge Conundrum

Okay, I need some advice from ya'll. Since I have mentioned in a post or two that I opened a wine bar in Anchorage, and Roy so graciously featured my place several months back in the newsletter, I have learned allot about the Port knowledge of the general public, or lack there of really. After a tas...

hmmmm....maybe a small Port bar in a very large city might fly. Might have to have KILLER desserts or some sort of related draw too? 30-40 seats maybe?
