Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?

This Friday, I've shelled out no less than 105€ shipped for a bottle of 1985 vintage Hooper's Vintage Port. I'm meeting a big, BIG corporate clients who has laid his eyes on no less than the yacht Anna I https://arconyachts.com/en/shipyards/feadship/sales/feadship-67m-anna-i and would like our compa...

Re: Other sweet/dessert wines??

Tokaji is a great bet when it comes to dessert wines, combine it with an awesome, professionally made (and, thus, expensive) cake and you'll feel fancier than with any champagne.
Speaking of French wines, Sauternes is great as a dessert wine, but I think it's a better match for foie gras.

Re: What have you opened this week?

Nothing so far, we're only Monday! I did open a bottle of Georgian Kindzmarauli Saturday evening with my wife, but that doesn't really matter there, does it? But it may change: the only thing I'm opening today are articles about the real estate market because I'm to write predictions for this Budape...

Re: Foot Treading Suspended in the Douro

I'd say the influencing factor could be the salt and acids from the sweat of the grape treaders... By the way, wouldn't it be possible to have the treaders wear MOPP/NBC suits with only the feet exposed so that treading can happen without risking to get contaminated? ... That's a joke, by the way, I...

Re: Lots of new faces ... please introduce yourself

Thanks for your messages! I've noticed a few Belgians on the forums, yes... And are there some French people too, or haven't they learnt yet that there are interesting wines outside of their country?

Eh, it's better to be inside with a good wine than outside without it, it's not like everything's lost

Re: when you can't go to Portugal...

Eh, it's a shame the picture is down, I'd love to see what one of my countrymen is baking to go with their wine!
But yeah, most of us really had time to kill back in spring... I didn't, but pretty much everyone I know started one hobby or another.

Okay, thanks! So, if I were to open it a bit before noon, it should be ready to drink by dinner if I have guests, that's good to know.

Re: What Madeira(s) Have You Purchased Recently?

Okay, dumb question time: how does one make sure the wine you're buying is still good? Sure, that sort of wine should get only better with time, but do you get a warranty should the wine be tainted, or ruined due to incorrect conservation?

Re: Need New Movie + Video Suggestions

I've recently watched Jojo Rabbit as well, and went in with rather low expectations, as I was quite skeptical about the idea behind the movie. And man, was I pleasantly wrong! It really deals with the harsh topic in a much smarter way than what I expected, and it's especially good as I was used to s...

I've managed to locate a bottle of it online, thanks for the heads-up about the decantation time. How long do you think the wine should be left to decantate for? 6 hours, 8, overnight?

Re: Lots of new faces ... please introduce yourself

Hello everyone! I'm Olivier, I'm Belgian, and I've been a wine enthusiast for as long as I've been allowed to drink it - 22 years, soon... However, I was only knowledgeable about the famous vintages from our Southern neighbour, and my wife, who's from Georgia (the country in the Caucasus between Rus...

Re: How to open a bottle of 1970 Warres

Well that's a pretty spectacular way to open a bottle, that's how I realise I'm an absolute newbie when it comes to Portuguese wines, as I didn't know there were bottles one has to open this way! It looks like I've found the right place to learn more about these wines... (For the record, I'm not a n...
