Re: Sediment?

Thank you both for the information!
I think the coravin could be interesting to use to check if bottle are "ready". But since I take forever to drink a bottle it may work well for me.

Re: Sediment?

Also do any of you use a coravin to just have a glass of a bottle instead of committing to the whole bottle?

Sediment?

When you decant and there is a lot of sediment, do you filter it out either with a fine mesh strainer or coffee filter? Ot just leave it to sink in the decanter? Would love some insight.

Re: What have you opened this week?

1996 Belo Wine Company Vintage Port Came in from Winebid, and was seeping, so what a great excuse to open it. Decanted with lots of sediment. Very fruit forward on first sip, with some alcohol on the pallet. Will see how it does after some decant time. :-) Who’s Belo Wine? It's a Napa Valley compan...

Re: Vintages... Best?

Roy's ratings of vintages can be found here. Those ratings will give you a general idea of which vintages are good, which are great, and which should be avoided. The most notable recent vintages ("recent" by Port standards ) have already been mentioned and are 2011, 1994, and 1970. B...

Re: Vintages... Best?

Decades don't matter much by themselves, the vintage and producer matter. For example, people will tell you that 90s Niepoort bottlings tend to have VA issues so its probably best to avoid them. Others can chime in on the quality but from the perspective of pricing alone, it is not really correlate...

Vintages... Best?

Hi all! I've been looking around winebid some, focusing on the cheaper bottles as I'm new to the game. I've been reading a lot of posts and its clear there is a lot of knowledge in this forum group. Curious to know if there are any sort of general suggestions for buying ports. Are their decades that...

Where to buy port in San Francisco

I'm travelling to San Franciso, CA US. Can anyone suggest a good store to find port? Are there any that are really great?

Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?

I went to Newark today where Mike JW previously mentioned some portuguese wine shops. The one listed on yelp as "Oporto Wines" still has an old Andresen LBV btw in one of the lower shelves, I think '92 and I didn't buy it. What a weird, liquor style store. It would seem that they are unde...

Hi everyone. I'm Aaron. Just getting into port a little more seriously. I forgot I liked it, and am rekindling my enjoyment. Putting together a little collection of things i can find around at local grocery and liquor stores. Probably the most interesting thing I have now is a 1970 Maynards Colheit...
