Re: What have you opened this week?

Dow's 20 year old Tawny - smells great and first taste is good, but follows with strong alcohol heat, which ruins it for me a bit. Will hold it in the fridge for some time, hopefully it mellows a bit. And did it? Last weekend I opened a bottle of Krohn 1961 for a friend born that year. It showed ve...

Re: What have you opened this week?

Grahams 10 year old Tawny + Quevedo's 10 year old Tawny. Quevedo was surprisingly good, while it had less depth compared to Grahams, it was very smooth and "easy" to drink.

Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?

Great idea to include the prices, this gives me an idea of current price level and help assess how good local prices are and if I should check the Portuguese suppliers. Thank you!

Re: What have you opened this week?

2010 Dow's Quinta do Bomfim. I planned to decant it for 4-6 hours but I liked it so much I drank half the bottle during the first few hours of decanting.

Re: What have you opened this week?

But if the year of bottling the 10 year old is 2017 its still old. Meh - a youngster! 10yr and 20yr TWIOA age really well - I won't touch one with less than 10yrs in bottle. TWOIA age/mature in the bottle? I was under the impression that they don't and it's recommended to consume rather early (few ...

Re: What have you opened this week?

Portal 20 Year old Tawny - soft and smooth, but on palate the sugar overpowered other tastes, so not as interesting/tasty as I had hoped. Cruz 10 Year old Tawny - Strong alcohol burn right after opening, needs to sit for some days to lose the burn a bit. Decent, but there are a lot of better 10 year...

Re: Quinta da Devesa 10 Year Old Tawny Port

Opened my 10 year old Devesa which is bottled in 2023 and my opinion is the same, it does taste more like a 20 year old Tawny! I smelled and tasted leather, oak/hazelnut, marmalade and caramel. It is very smooth and mellow on the palate and that is one of the main things that makes it feel more matu...

Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?

1 x Portal 10 Years Old Tawny 1 x Portal 20 Years Old Tawny I've not tried either, but there are good scores and notes on both of the Tawnies in the Tasting Notes Database. If you could, post notes whenever you crack them open. Yeah no problem, but my notes will be about structure and body mostly a...

Re: Vintage maturing in a warmer cellar

Thank you all for feedback! I will start looking for a wine fridge (and room for it) to keep my VPs more stable and cool, would not want to let anything spoil because of holding environment.

Vintage maturing in a warmer cellar

Hello Everyone! Can anyone comment or have any experience on how a warmer cellar (20-25C/68-77F) affects the maturing of Vintage ports? I live in an apartment in the city and have no traditional cellar, but have a maintenance room (that is dark) where I keep my ports, but the temperature in there is...

Re: What have you opened this week?

Dow's 2017 LBV. Right after decanting it was very fruity and smooth, but only about 1 hour after being in decanter, it has reduced in smoothness considerably and now in aftertaste you can feel alcohol/spirit rather strongly. I will test further with decanting to understand how the changes occur and ...

Re: Quinta da Devesa 10 Year Old Tawny Port

I would just like to comment that it is nice to see reviews of 10 year old Tawny's and some LBV's in here too, which are more attainable pricewise for people still new to the port world (or where VPs are pretty expensive). I am going to go order this one and try it out, thank you!

Re: Lots of new faces ... please introduce yourself

Hi everyone, I am Martin from Tallinn, Estonia. I am relatively new to the Port world and started drinking (by a friends suggestion) port very occasionally some 6-7 years ago, starting from cheap Tawny's and Rose's, as Port is not well known or marketed in Estonia (also the selection is quite poor)....
