I have two mag's of '85 Graham, that's it. Sadly, no mag's of Fonseca. I have several mag's of Bordeaux and Burgundy. Thinking about it, for me, I think mag's of Port almost make more sense than mag's of any other wine. With other wines I'm usually keen on comparing multiple bottles. Port is somethi...

The 2000 Fonseca is remarkable stuff. We enjoyed a bottle over a three day period and it was at its best on the third evening. Following the evolution of the 2000 vintage ports is definitely going to be one of the highlights of my wine drinking hobby.

It's so hard to be patient...

Hi Simon,
Thanks for the note! I've never had a Burmester Colheita - something to add to my list of ports to try?

1966 Offley Boa Vista Vintage Port

1966 Offley Boa Vista Porto Vintage - Portugal, Douro, Porto (1/28/2006) Decanted for 4 hours, (probably a bit too long, but hey, we were busy drinkin'!) The nose on this was subtle and sweet. My neighbor sniffed the decanter and immediately asked, "tawny port?" This was certainly showing...

I was fortunate enough to share a glass of this with my wife, courtesy of Roy. I'm a big fan of Rocha's tawny ports and Roy's note hits it spot on. I always get caramel and nuts with Rocha tawny's. To me the most profound thing about this wine was the middle palate: full and round with layer upon la...

2000 Fonseca Vintage Port

2000 Fonseca Porto Vintage - Portugal, Douro, Porto (12/28/2005) We opened this bottle about a week ago. At that time it was really nice, showing a nose of blackberry and a palate that matched. The real story is how it opened up after sitting in my fridge for a week. HOLY COW! I'm sure this would'v...

:?: How long to decant a '66 Sandeman?

:?: I'll be double decanting a bottle of '66 Sandeman to take to a dinner party. How long should I leave it in the decanter before I put it back in the bottle? It'll be back in the bottle approximately 4 hours before being served.
Thanks in advance!

Ray, I get your point & it's a good one. However, comparing the best ports with "super seconds" isn't altogether fair. The recent 2000 vintage was excellent for both port and bordeaux. The prices for bordeaux were nuts - much higher relative to the previous vintage than they were for p...
