1983 Graham's Vintage Port
My first time participating in a Virtual Tasting..... 1983 Graham's Vintage Port: http://www.greenbergs.net/images/1983%20Graham%20Vintage%20Port%20001.jpg Decanted from 750ml, full driven cork that had some mold on top of it, under the plastic sheath. Cork was discolored about 80% of the way from b...

2004 Krohn Quinta do Retiro Novo Vintage Port
2004 Quinta do Retiro Novo (Krohn) Opened from 750ml bottle, acquired from Robert's Market in Woodside at $26usd. As expected, cork was pretty much pristine, and came out easily. Decanted and let sit an hour. Deep, inky purple. Pretty solid color to the rim. Relatively long & lasting legs. 1 Hou...

Been away, need some help - Cossart Gordon Verdelho
Hey :ftlop: Madeira lovers! I've been away from the forum for a while due to some personal stuff going on. I'd like to get your input on a bottle of madeira I found while catalogueing my father's wine cellar. It's a bottle of Cossart Gordon Verdelho 10yr. I'm not sure I've ever had any madeira, so w...

Re: What is your favorite type of cuisine and restaurant?
Glenn- Yep, it's a "reverse-sear" technique, and I like the results better than the more traditional sear, then low heat roast. It works especially well on thick steaks and is wonderful on standing rib roasts. I do the Xmas roast this way every year, and I get the same doneness throughout ...

Re: What is your favorite type of cuisine and restaurant?
Fun topic, Roy. I love food as well, and, while I relish a well prepared restaurant meal with excellent service, my favorite meals are ones I cook myself. I am a self-taught grilling and q'ing afficianado, and I'll have to go with Derek as steak is my favorite meal (I include standing rib roasts her...

One of my favorites is an Arturo Fuente Hemmingway Masterpiece (9", 42 or 44 ring size, I think), in a Maduro wrapper (this one is somewhat rare.) Takes quite a while to finish.....

Re: Do you drink Port because you don't like dry wines?
I love dry red wines (as I type, I'm finishing my last bottle of '02 Robert Craig Affinity.) I also have a few favorite dessert wines, particularly the German late harvest rieslings from the 70's and 80's that my dad keeps pulling out of the cellar!!! :) I am also a big fan of bourbon, and single ma...

Re: Half bottles: are they relevant?
My issue with half bottles is storage space. They take up the same slot in my wine fridge that a 750 would, so I lose 375ml worth of storage. I have gotten around this by using the "bulk" storage space at the bottom of my fridge, but it still seems inefficient. When I commit to opening a b...

Todd- I was beginning to wonder where you were, and, knowing your wife was pregnant, was hoping all was well. Sounds like a tough ordeal for both of you to go through, but hopefully it can fade into the past quickly as you get to know your son! Congratulations on the birth of your third child, and h...

Bjorn- Very nice note, and matches up quite well with what I'm experiencing this evening. I actually opened and decanted this bottle last night and my wife and each had a glass. I didn't pay too much attention, though, as we were catching up on the days events. Tonight I'm sipping on this port while...

In San Mateo County, CA, you only get a per diem ($15/day) if you come back for day two. Day one is not compensated at all...... I just got called recently (seems like every 14 months for me), as well. As a history major, I am actually somewhat intrigued by the process and wouldn't mind serving on a...

T- My one shining achievement in track. I managed a 4:28 mile (16 seconds better than my previous PR) in an invitational meet that my coach wasn't even going to sign me up for. Funny part about that race is that at 4:28 I was DEAD last. The top five guys were all between 4:05 and 4:14, and one of th...
