We haven't had any problems bringing in glassware and having the restaurant staff pour. YMMV, of course :)

I would think 4 would suffice - that's enough for a 2oz pour for 40 people, which should be good for Port newbies.

I've definitely seen less around Northern CA - and lesser bottles when I do see any. The last place i encountered a decent bottle of Port (Taylor 30yo tawny) in a restaurant was in Baltimore last April.

Well, Phyllis and I willl either drive up or we'll be renting a car, so we could take a couple with us. Yeah, I figured - hotels generally don't let you bring in outisde food if they have any dining services on site. One can dream though!

Brand new, still-in-the-original-packing bottles of Scion are regularly available on Wine-searcher for $2900 - $3900, including several right now, so I wouldn't expect this at auction to get much over $2900.

Forgot to comment on this part - I think that'd be awesome! It might mean we leave home a day earlier to be ready to drink port earlier on Saturday - but that's a small sacrifice to make.
