Re: What should Todd buy from 2008?

Wow, thanks guys. There are a few producers that i have never even heard of in those lists... I suspect that a lot of them either lack the sales power to attract the attention of the Canadian market buyers, or they may jus not have made it out West to my market. (Ontario and Quebec are, population s...

Re: What have you opened this week?

Just found and am enjoying some Cockburn's Special Reserve port. It is SOLID for a "cheap" NV reserve ruby. Very nice. One of the better rubies I have had the opportunity to try. I have Andy to thank for this... A standup recommendation. Congratulates to Cockburn's... They have really impr...

Re: POLL: Quantity Purchases of Port

Pipes are still an option, you just have to have enough people to share in the cost of the quantity of cases that are bottled. Really??? I thought that all Port, particularly Vintage had to be bottled in Portugal? If I won the lottery I might be able to afford a pipe to get shipped overseas, but pr...

NV Cockburn's Special Reserve Port

Was alerted by Andy that the Cockburn's Special Reserve Port had at some point changed their juice dramatically, so I had to go out and find one to try for myself. Very impressive. Thin body and with a bit of spirit on the nose, the palate is dominated by cherries, red berries and sweet grapes. Flor...

Re: Your Crown Jewel?

This bottle of Noval LB is my most treasured possession :D that is a great story Derek, I missed it on your original post during my "recess away from FTLOP" but am glad you referred me back to it. A trophy bottle to be sure. It is wonderful when something like a bottle can bring back memo...

Re: Boston Bruins

Dam it! gotta face the Bruins in the Final - statistically against the Bruins, the Canucks are 25-66-15-2. The 25 wins are the fewest the Canucks have had against any team they've played 100 or more times during their 40 NHL seasons. While that stat cheers me Dom, I still think it won't matter this...

Re: Boston Bruins

No penalties... That was one short game of hockey. So much pressre on both offenses, just waiting for a defensive mistake. Not sure our goal was that, but we scored! Car horns were going off when the game ended. Didn't open up the Ferreira... Had Dow 2005 LBV instead. Yeah, first time in history of...

Re: 2003 Portal VP

No change on day three. Day four actually saw this open up, more floral and easy drinking. A trace of mineral in the mid-palate, but smooth and very very nice. It's a pity the 375 is empty now.... It was just getting interesting. This one is definitely slumbering folks... Leave it alone for another ...

Your Crown Jewel?

What is the "crown jewel" of your Port collection? (I know, it may be difficult to limit it to just one.... Let's go with a reasonable limit... 3???) I have two: 1977 Taylor Fladgate VP -'77 is my wife's birth year and the Taylor is supposed to be very good from that year. Also the bottle ...

Re: TRADER JOE'S - not the first name you think of for Port

Haven't seen the Dow Crusted around these parts, but there is one wine shop that may bring it in. There is a website tht At you can search on wine names to determine where they are being shopped to, and thus far, no results, but I'll keep hoping they find a way to get some into this province eventua...

Re: How does your Port drinking change with the seasons?

I actually end up drinking a bit less Port in the summer months, not because it is warm here (we're farther north and usually colder than you are in Seattle Roy,) but due to the fact that once a year, I try to fool myself that I cam get myself back into the type of shape it takes to compete inn Iron...

Meh, these crackpots are hippies from Toronto... Usually you find them in Victoria, but there are also plenty in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area).

They probably also voted for the Green Party in the recent election... [kez_11.gif] :D

Re: Boston Bruins

This is a going to be a big night in Boston. The weather is great, holiday weekend and if the B's bring it home, there will be mayhem in the streets. We've been waiting a long time for a chance at Cup. I did not think, nor did the local sports FM guys think the B's were a championship team, but tha...

Hmmm, Glenn, you may have just nailed exactly what I couldn't articulate myself.

Don't get me wrong, I don't WANT them to cheat, but I am realistic enough to know that the likelihood of a clean field is slim to none...

Wow, that is a good price. Will keep my eyes out for it. Will be buying it by the case. Todd, when are you coming back to Boston? [friends.gif] [cheers.gif] :winebath: Evidently not soon enough!!! [cheers.gif] I'm still trying to find some of the Dow 85 that you opened that week a couple of years a...

 yeah Andy, only by two's... :D Roy, the kids come out first, followed by as much of the best bottles that I could carry before the firefighters inevitably shut down my efforts. Each kid has their assigned OWC to carry out! I keep the majority of my collection off-site at my parents' cellar. M...
