Re: Torre Bella vs Bolger

Hi Andrew! I am not sure if I do completely understand your question, but I can assure that Bolger is not the SHIPPER. It is to be noted that "Torre Bella" is the title of the estate and nobility whereas the Bolgers have been the decendant family inheriting that title, like "Mr. Derm...

2009 Warre's LBV Port

Decanted about 8 hours. The color is still holding a dark ruby and now showing some light bricking on the edges. Youthful plums are starting to give way to blueberries, mixed with a lot of dusty tannins and plenty of acidity. The moderate complexity, with the just evolving fruit and structure, make ...

Re: Taylor buying Quinta do Portal

Thanks for that link Andy. Commenting that “the vineyards have the potential to be mechanised in the future,” he also said that Fladgate would “modernise the winery over the next few years”, and use this updated facility to make both wines and Port from the Vale de Mendiz vineyards – new and existi...

Re: Taylor buying Quinta do Portal

Taylor has purchased a bigger part of Quinta do Portal, while the present owners will keep a smaller part. Taylor is stating that they will concentrate more on DOC-wines than before. Untill a few years ago Taylor concentrated only on port wines (and hotels + WOW), but these news and previous deals ...

Iron Maiden making a Portuguese Wine

For all you heavy metal lovers, get ready for a refreshing Douro wine from Iron Maiden and Van Zeller Wine.

Not sure where all it will be available.

Re: 1964 Dow's Reserve Port -- Colheita

Quite a bit of a delay since I tasted this initially. Unfortunately, the first tasting was bottle 9 of the evening so I felt I couldn't make any useful comments. 2 weeks later I was able to revisit the 1964 Dow's. A distinct funk when first poured, which coupled with the cloudy, murky look in the g...

Re: Antonio Aguilar Tonico

Google translate says “Invalido” is Italian. So possibly made for that market. Based on the name and tonic I’d lean toward it being something with tonic and quinine in it. I’d guess it is rather old. Unfortunately it is also Portuguese, as is Tonico. Or at least they both can be Portuguese. Lots of...

Re: 1985 Quinta do Crasto Vintage Port

Interesting! I thought that the Crasto brand only started in the 90's...Do you know the story behind this? The back label says they were imported by Broadbent Imports (which is no longer their importer). A friend found them in 2009 in Las Vegas for $33.00/each. Other than that, I don’t know the sto...

1985 Quinta do Crasto Vintage Port

Initially decanted about 4 hours, with a couple glasses leftover for the next day. Lighter in color with bricking. Very viscous and sweet with bing cherries and licorice. The tannins are fully resolved. A medium slightly warm finish is short on acidity to temper that sweetness. A rather delicate VP ...
