Quinine added to the port for when you want booze, but feeling a little under the weather.

Re: 1980 Gould Campbell Vintage Port
1980 is pretty solid vintage with a lots of deals if you can find them. Taylor, Ramos, Sandeman, and Ferreira (among others) are all terrific ports. Yes, 83 + 85 may be a little better, but I would not pass on any 80 vintages I had an opportunity to pick up.

Re: What have you opened this week?
Grahams, Ferreira, Gould Campbell, and Ramos Pinto are pretty consistent and top notch. Niepoort is great when it's a good bottle.

Re: first auction bids
Protruding corks is the main thing I would be concerned with. Signs of seepage is common with port. Even the best cellars have leaking bottles. If it weren't for wax seals, I fret to think what would happen to many vintages. Make sure you calculate hammer fees, local tax, and shipping when bidding. ...

Re: CellarTracker
Moses, Can you tell me from back labels on your bottle, who the importer was, and I can ask Jorge the head of RP, to see if that importer is still actively involved in bringing in their Ports anymore? World Shippers in Philadelphia for the '83 & '85 and Maison something in CA for the 94's. I wo...

Produced in Portugal on the bottle at least.Andy Velebil wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 8:51 amI don’t see a Selo on the bottle. Perhaps exported from PT in bulk and bottled there, then shipped over?Moses Botbol wrote:Interesting that it's imported from England, not Portugal.

Re: What have you opened this week?
IMG_5896.jpeg Inspired by a friend’s recent experience with this Port, I opened one yesterday. It’s finally starting to mature. It’s damn delicious! Seems in an awkward phase for me. I didn't dig the last bottle (few months ago) as much as I had in years past. Hardly writing this off, but not anxio...

Re: Tawny’s True Age Under Fire
I am fine with the way it is. Comes down to whether I like the tawny and think it's priced accordingly. Call it 10, 20, or whatever. But the issue with that is that the producers clearly price based on the stated age on the bottle. The average consumer, the people not using this forum, judge that o...

I generally drink any port by itself. Don't think of port as a food wine per say.

Are they sure a Tregnum is three 75cl bottles? I have a couple and thought it was 2.5 bottles in total?

Re: Don't shoot the messenger ... Vintage Port offer
Gould Campbell 1977 Gould Campbell Vintage Port 1.5 L - 8 avail at $299.50 - 84 pts This has to be a typo... it should probably be 94 points, especially from magnum! To think that I snagged 7 of these for $120 each two years ago, and another one for $240 this summer... I bought one a year ago, 1.5 ...

Re: CellarTracker
So when do you plan to open one of your 12 bottles of 1983 Ramos Pinto, Moses? I had one a couple of months ago; great vintage. Pretty even between 80,83,85 with Ramos. They've really fall off with representation on VP around here. Never see Ramos Pinto VP at store. Use to be the one you'd see for ...

Thanks for the head's up. Picked up a mixed case of port and wine.
