Re: Poll: Super Bowl Beer, Wine, Port, other?

We'll be in the car, driving South on I-5, so it's non-alcohol for us. Likely would be same if we were at home, but if there was any alcohol consumed, it'd be port!

Kopke 30 year tawny (375ml)
Kopke 1982 Colheita (375ml)

Both from Pete's Wines in Bellevue, WA. The pair will be the subject of a side-by-side tasting later this evening.

Re: What is Port?

They are among the longest lived wines would be better. Jura red and whites can go as long as Madeira. The longer wood aging even if it's "neutral wood" plays a part (as it does with Jura wines). I don't think concentration plays a major role in longevity either. I've read that Essencia f...

Re: Tête-à-tête: Graham's Six Grapes vs. Noval Black

We just finished up a bottle of Noval Black - I'd have to say it's by far our favorite Ruby. We've had a few bottles of Six Grapes over the years, but none recently. A side-by-side would be interesting - maybe with the next bottle of Black we'll give it a try.

Re: Lots of new faces ... please introduce yourself

I never push my newsletter on our new people, but think you would be wise to subscribe as our next "subscriber's only" buying opportunity in the newsletter will be focused on Tawny and Colheita Ports. Again, sorry for the "push" but for someone who appreciates the wines you do, ...

Re: Quinta do Noval has a new website

I, for one, would much rather have their old website back. The new one, while pretty, is buggy and slow. I too had the problem with the language selection popup not really working right.

Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?

Since I'm new here, I thought I'd post what we've purchased in the past month instead of just this week. I don't have prices handy on anything, but we've paid prices about mid-range of what wine-searcher can find on most bottles. So, in no particular order: Noval Black (1) Noval 10 Year Tawny (1) No...

Re: Lots of new faces ... please introduce yourself

Hello fellow port lovers! [imnewhere.gif] My wife & I had a long affair with Port - we never liked it, having tried various ports that we found on restaraunt dessert menus. We tried various rubies (which were OK) and various tawnies (which we didn't care for much at all). Then, one fateful day i...
