Re: Why shouldn't the Douro farmers be allowed to use irrigation in v. hot/dry years?
One of the things that attracts me to Port is the fact that the vintages come out so rarely, the challenges to getting to extraordinary levels of top quality vintage is rare and the quirky IDVP regs separate it from many other regions. Although I understand it must be tough on producers at times, th...

Re: Lots of Port and a couple of Madeiras
yes, many very expensive K&L is proud of their stock for sure, but Glenn you have to admit $169 for a 63 Grahams is robbery, not like all of us have the resources you apparently do to find that kind of screaming deal!

The question is Andy, is a liter of Port without a bottle, capsule, cork, and label etc....worth anything to an end consumer? [foilhat.gif] If it comes in a large pipe (aka: barrel) it's worth a lot :winebath:  I don't think many pipes are gonna fit in my cellar. poor design I guess.... [shok.g...

Re: 2011 Port Futures
pretty consistent. I have paid a bit more than Eric, but I have not probably been as diligent in my shopping. Checked on a couple times right around shipping seasons to see what was in stock, and ended up most pre arrival anyways because I have no self control. Anyways, prices are virtually the same...

Re: Noval Nacional 1994
I am in for the 1994 if possible. If I take two will you cut the shipping in half?
I already have a 97 and I just put a 2003 on order, so I would probably want two 94's or a 94 and a 97.
sounds like a great opportunity!

Roy, The 2 Dow above go with the other 4 I ordered last fall on release pre-arrival which can be found earlier in this thread. But having another 6 Dow is not a bad call! I probably will find a few more over the next year, but magnums are hard to find. I do need more 2000 and less though to bridge t...

Eric, all on-line, various spots. More TCWC, JJ Buckley had a few of these items, wine.com had the GST (little scared of that one, reviews look sketchy for the site but what the heck). not in Denver enough to shop much currently...and judging by your posts not much has been out anywhere. I forgot I ...

I might open one Taylor sometime in the next 5 years. I ended up with ten, so its out of my normal groupings of multiples of 3. Just to see what the fuss is about. Then hands off until 2031 or so...

39. I will make it into these. [beg.gif] And I have an 8 and 5 year old year old who will enjoy whatever is left over I guess. I think this gets me up to around 225 bottles of Port or so, would have to do the math...I figure I have at least two or three more vintages to participate in I hope! For in...

maybe opposed to Roy, I do like the 2007 VT and 2009, and ordered some 10 yet to be seen, but I certainly wont go for the 11 with a description of "sucked"!

While they may have claimed to have had 18, and now have none, that doesn't mean they took orders for 18 bottles. Perhaps only reality set in and they adjusted their inventory.[/quote] Very possible. But they have a habit of selling things they don't have yet (or so it appears) and then taking years...

Re: A Question for the Port Trade
On the subject of holding back inventory of bottled VP at release per the question above, what are the main drivers to decision? Do individual producers typically use detailed supply / demand models to try to track real time pricing reactions as they ship product and then decide how much to ship ove...
