Re: Your BEST Port tasted in 2016?
S. Leonardo Velhissimo Tawny Port. With only a couple of weeks left in the year, I don't expect that answer to change.

Re: The next great subscriber's buying opPORTunity.
My Souza's have shipped!! Shipment cancelled---maybe they're concerned over weather as its pretty cold here right now... [help.gif] I had the same thing. They had to re-label the shipments, so had to cancel the original and then reschedule. You should have 3 UPS notifications: One confirmation of s...

Re: The next great subscriber's buying opPORTunity.
I got my call, today, to confirm payment and delivery. And, within seconds, I got my UPS delivery notification. According to UPS, I should have my Port next Wednesday. Thanks again, Roy, for pulling this together. I realize that there were some challenges in pushing this across the finish line, but ...

Re: Barros 40 year Tawny
That is unfortunate. I have not had their 40 year, but have tried the 20 year Tawny. I would only say that I have had much better 20 year-olds. Their Colheitas, however, I find to be generally quite nice and have had a few (1994, 1985, 1983, 1975).

Re: Port Inventory
I use an excell spreadsheet to keep my wine and port inventory. There I keep all records and information on my ports, as wel as the location in my cellar (a grid system specifies the location). Ihave a little over 600 bottles of port in total (including those that are meant for my two boys, so ther...

Re: Port Inventory
So how do you all know what you have and what to drink? Or do you just dig around when you are ready to open a bottle? I would think after you get above 100 bottles or so, you would need some kind of inventory system.

Port Inventory
Somehow, about a year ago, my cellar mapping chart that I maintain in Excel became different from my inventory list that I also maintain in Excel. Of course, that drove me crazy every time I pulled a bottle. Tonight, I finally fixed it. I was off by a 1965 Delaforce Colheita and 2 1987 Souza VPs. Gl...

Re: Recap of a Port Evening
Only '75 I have ever had was a Graham's Magnum. It showed a bit more youthful than the Taylor described here and was very good. Perhap's the aging in the Magnum is a bit slower ... not sure if there is any proof of this hypothesis but is seems logical. Like my assumption that 375s age fasted than 75...

Re: What have you opened this week?
40 year S. Leonardo Tawny 1992 Taylor Vintage, half bottle Both very nice. The Taylor was a PNP and definitely needs a few hours in the decanter to open up a bit. This is what I open when my wife says, "I am bringing the book club girls over. I need you to open a Vintage and a Tawny." As s...

.... And, I really dislike wax capsules, but the Port is quite nice. I think this one has probably peaked, but might stay here for a few more years.

Re: 1945 Taylor's - real or not?
This trend is very discouraging and disappointing. But, I wonder what is actually in the bottles? Do forgers just put miscellaneous liquids or wine in? Or, do they actually fill them with something that could pass as Port? I do not believe that I have ever had a faked bottle, so not sure what the ex...
