For people who are somewhat new to Port, how would you advise them to spend their budget on beginning a foundation of a Port cellar? Let's say $1500 USD, or equivalent Euro value as the budget.

Re: OSCAR QUEVEDO

They like spicy and sweet. Is Port a possibility? Could be, but we need to go there, present them our wines and help them to educate their palate to the taste of the Douro wines. The earlier we do it the better are our chances that they like our wines in the future. Jeff G. can also give us some id...

Re: Vintage Port Longevity

I agree iwth the tawny sentiment

when the port ages so long it turns to a tawny, I find it a bit unappealing that i'd rather drink a colheita or a tawny instead.

Re: OSCAR QUEVEDO

This might be of interest to some people and I thought it might be informative if you elaborated on it. But Quevedo actually owns / co owns 8 different vineyards. Quinta Vale d'Agodinho Quinta da Alegria Vale do Nedo Quinta das Olgas are all along various parts of the Douro With 4 others to the sout...

Re: Fonseca Bin 27 - CONTEST

Not to be overly cynical but I agree with Andy that I can't find anything related to the contest.

And because of such, now it gets relegated into the category of "not worth the trouble" for a 11$ btl of wine.

Re: The End of Port's Selo de Garantia

That's not really an issue Eric. DRC people know the numbers and they're faked all the time. It's quite easy to have a number on the bottle along with the serial. both combined would make a key. if you dont have the bottle you don't know the number and you can't randomly guess a serial. only way to ...

Re: The End of Port's Selo de Garantia

IDVP wants each bottle to be laser etched with a unique number scheme for better tracking and quality control. Actually, I have no evidence and the only reason is to stir the pot… \alot of the big cult wines in cali do this. Harlan even lets you check the numbers online to validate if it's v...

Re: Got a Leaker--Now What?

I've very much quite enjoyed the 67 taylor's

however there was a wintergreen note that people found offputting.

we did 2-3 hours decant and it certainly didn't go anywhere by the end of dinner 3 hours later.

Re: The End of Port's Selo de Garantia

i would most certainly request that they be kept.

It was very cool when we found a mislabeled cork with a 1970 warres with its celo on to send Dominic Symington an email and confirm that the celo did indeed match a 1970 warres and it was just a miscorking in the line.

Re: Can T-Corks Leak?

On a bottle that young it seems like it would either have to be a defective t-stopper (it does happen), or some rather extreme heat variation that caused a pressure leak. It just doesn't seem like storage could be a factor on a bottle that young. (The earliest a 2007 could have been bottled was 201...

Re: Niepoort LBV 1995-1998

I'd personally just buy a bottle of each to try them all out.

1995 was a great year
1996 was good,
1997 was a generally declared vp year
1998 was decent too (early pickers got good but I'm not sure if niepoort was one of them)
