Re: Chelsea wine cellars ... the one hit hardest by Hurricane Sandy ...

Given the predictions of climate change and rising sea levels, it might be time for anyone with wine stored in coastal areas to be thinking about a move inland, or at least uphill a bit. Even if the wine itself is not in a flood-prone area, the power plants that power the storage facilities might be...

Re: Which one bottle ...

I guess it would be my one remaining bottle of Nimrod. ( :beat: - he's at it again. ) Do we need to help you find more? No; it was last bottled in mid-2008, so any existing bottles are in at least as bad condition as I suspect mine is. I will open it eventually and think back on the several h...

Re: Need New Movie + Video Suggestions

I have a BluRay player which can stream onDemand from Comcast, Netflix, Hulu etc. After a couple of tries, I gave up on it for just about the same reasons - just too much trouble, plus the absence of good subtitles. Again, I really prefer the carefully produced compilations on DVD. An exception: Bre...

I guess it would be my one remaining bottle of Nimrod. ( :beat: - he's at it again. ) Good thing you said "not necessarily the most valuable", because as a getting-elderly-in-the-bottle tawny, it is surely dropping in value. I suspect that some of my souvenir (empty) bottles have almost as...

Re: Our local $600,000 wine heist

Someone has been watching too many "caper" movies. Hope they track down the wine.

At least the temperatures have been "friendly" to wine removed from storage conditions. If they recover it, probably it won't have been damaged by something like a 100 degree day, or a hard freeze.

Re: Thanksgiving wine

Of a dozen or so bottles (we had guests), three stand out: First, a 1997 Seghesio Omaggio. I had six of these originally and drank three soon after purchase. I decided to let the others age a while and when I opened the fourth, it was flat and listless; I think it had gone "dumb". So, I wa...

Re: Is anybody out there running out of cellar space?

I have just the opposite problem: I'm getting too much excess space. After having several (dozens) of good bottles slip past their prime, and after reading that 90% of wines are intended to be drunk with five years of bottling (not really age-worthy), I have begun concentrating on ready-to-drink win...

I haven't bought a car that way, but I am certainly buying more and more things that way. At $.50/mile, I can't afford to drive to a store.

Wow, Peter W... One Jerry Lee song I did not know. Met him the other day here in Norway and I sang a verse of "What made Milwaukee famous, made a fool of me " [kez_11.gif] . But that is not about wine... He smiled and really enjoyed my version...What a guy... I didn't know he was still to...

There's always Drinking wine spo-dee-odee . I like the Jerry Lee Lewis version, but there are dozens of others. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTHfFoqBQAA Also several wine-related songs by George Jones which you can search for at youtube: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=george+jones+win...

Re: Need New Movie + Video Suggestions

Compiled series on DVD are almost as good as "real" movies. You can watch for times equal to movies. Watching them as they first air is not possible for me, as I need subtitles and can't abide interruptions from commercials. We DVR current stuff (Criminal Minds, Big Bang Theory, SNL) so w...

Re: Need New Movie + Video Suggestions

I recently dipped my toe (first season) into a TV series which generated a LOT of buzz during its airing time: Breaking Bad . It lives up to its hype, at least in the sense that it is fairly addictive. I'm now into the fourth season and have pre-ordered the sixth/final season which comes out on DVD ...

Too late! I already pre-ordered it from Amazon. Oh well, there is always the garage sale box if it turns out to be really terrible.

Re: Beginner question about decanting, etc.

Dropping glass marbles (good solid ones can be found at florists and aquarium supply places) into a partially consumed bottle will displace air as well, without aerating the wine. The only concern I might have is whether they would stir up any sediment. Once the bottle is finished, you can pour out ...

Re: Pipe dream?

One issue: what would be the effect of drawing off bottles from this "owned" pipe over the years? Would the increasing air space over the wine be a problem? I assume that in ordinary circumstances the pipes are used entirely, topped up, or blended in such a way that there is little or no a...

I didn't have a CT account so registered for the free version and tried what you suggested. I can't find any way of adding the barcode number on either the cor.kz app or CT. The app crashed four times in five minutes. I have abandoned the experiment. Well, both CT and cor.kz work quite well and wit...

Re: Wine apps for mobile devices?

I hadn't noticed that. Just tried it on a 2004 Langoa Barton. It read the barcode but didn't return any results. Perhaps we have different barcodes in the UK? I think they are universal. Try a few more. To recover your confidence, try something really common. The 2004 Langoa Barton is listed in the...
