Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?

If the economy recovers at all in the next 10 years, a $500 investment now is almost certain to be worth $750 in 10 years and $1000 in 20. That gives an annual rate of return of 4.137% and 3.526% respectively. Which is better than what I'm currently getting from my bank on CDs, though mine are curr...

Re: 2011 Vintage Port is declared

I just learned that BORGES also chose NOT to declare 2011. I know there are reasons why a company decides to declare, or not, a particular vintage Port. However, it seems like if you are in the Port business, when a high quality and presigious vintage like 2011 comes along, that it is in the best i...

Re: 1994 - ready at 20 years?

Having had the Churchill's 2 years back it is a relatively "weak" wine that is in my opinion entering drinking window. It is not a block buster but definitely offers enjoyment of a fine mature port. The Vesuvio has some baby fat to shed, the Taylor and Fonseca will have you sucking the wal...

Re: Silly Port pricing in the UK

True if I were in the UK. But for export you pay no VAT or duty. With importation fees to the US it would come out to around $55. Still that's so inexpensive compared to other wines. I believe the last time I purchased 1994 Graham's in the UK it was $52, which I though was a good deal, but it seems...

Re: Silly Port pricing in the UK

It's sad for me to see some great ports be priced so low. As an example, the 1994 Graham's VP offered at 350 GBP per case. That's $44 per bottle. It's a super wine and is now almost 20 years old. If it were a Bordeaux, given that it comes from a great year and famous pedigree, it would be in the hu...

You have to be decanted? That explains a lot. ;)

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
well massive quantities of liquid typically requires decanting after a few hours ;-)

Re: Graham's Lodge opens new restaurant: VINUM

Cynthia replies that they're testing out different wines and will post on the vintage port site once they finalize the menu with what wines they're looking to carry. As with whimpy half bottles, some of us don't enjoy drinking tannin filled wines of youthful 750+ml bottles. gimme a half bottle anyda...

Re: Lead Crystal precautions

Feredrick I'll have you know that if you plan on drinking any sort of fancy older port, you're in essence getting more lead then you would storing it temporarily in a lead crystal decanter. case in point the Scion has 208 ppb worth of lead (higher than legal limits in most civilized countries) 208mg...

Fyi, you can just look up teh COLA. unless you're getting a wine that isn't being sold at all state side. https://www.ttbonline.gov/colasonline/publicSearchColasBasic.do Search for the wine, retrieve the cola. creating one requires you to get a federal ttb permit for submittance. in terms of acutall...
