I've seen this on several vintages of Musar.

The last one I tried, you were there for. How ever long ago that was.

I have a handful of these. I believe they were just bottled by Niepoort. Haven't tried one in over a decade.

Saving for port fans should they ever come by. [shrug.gif]

Re: What have you opened this week?

A couple of nights before Christmas we opened an '85 Ferreira. Finished on Christmas night and then pop and pour '80 Sandeman. There's a couple of glasses left for tonight. Initially, it tasted a bit primary, but we were half-in-the-bag when opened. Seems like there's a lot of life in it.

'85 Noval is better than any of the 80's Nacional's I have tried. '85 Noval is not a top flight port for the vintage either.

Well, it's an event worthy port, so don't pop & pour if you can help it. Unfortunately, pop & pour is the default at our residence. Not the whole bottle, but for sure a couple of glasses right away.

1970 Noval VP on Sunday. Went down quick. [kez_11.gif] What are your thoughts about it? I only have one bottle of it. One of the best of ports of the vintage, for sure top 5-6. Not in these parts! Every bottle opened tonight will be decapitated.
Standing around holding a MAP torch & tongs is not my first choice. If there is a ready roaring fire available, I'd be inclined to use the tongs on every bottle.

Re: What have you opened this week?

So sad to break the necks off very old bottles. Prefer to push the cork in and bag it out in one piece and keep the old bottle intact. Hopefully it shows well. I tend to do them on an old bottle only if there's a question of "is it really what the label says". I am too impatient to use to...

Re: Decant advice for 2 Ports

I am on the side with Glenn on this for an event. Those bottles will be gone in no time so they need be ready at first sip.

I pop and pour virtually everything. Even an hour or two in has its merit. I don't think that is phase you arm aiming for on this occasion.

Friday, we opened an '85 Gould Campbell VP. Basic fresh grape taste on pop and pour. Last night was marvelous. Super long finish and wonderful floral and tangerine nose. Reallyt special port. Has to be one of the best of the vintage. Expecting to finish the bottle today.
