Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?

1x Noval Nacional 2016 at auction 3x Graham's Stone Terraces 2021 Did the price of Stone Terraces essentially double for you, too? Suggested retail price in the US increased from $225 to $545! US$ 225?? That was a bargain! Lowest price in Europe (including appr. 20% VAT/Sales Tax) was around US$ 30...

Re: NV Ramos Pinto 30 years old tawny port

A bit of a sleeper as a 30 Year Old. Most people think of others first when asked to name the best 30s, but Ramos Pinto deserves to be in the conversation.

Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?

2x 1968 Taylor-Fladgate Limited Edition Very Old Single Harvest Port I'd call them colheitas, but they're labeled as above. So, would those be from Krohn's stock that was purchased? If so, they would be fresher than the 1968 Krohn's I bought a bunch of. My and wife's birth year. Yes, everything I'v...

Re: TFP buys a wine producer

I think he's probably referring to the fact that the buyer has little or no control over when the seller decides to sell. If a high-value property suddenly pops onto the market for whatever reason, potential buyers have to act quickly whether or not the timing is ideal for them. Or maybe he's alludi...

Re: Krohns Sold

Sometimes you just want the stock and not the flow. I do wonder how TFP ever got into the situation where they didn't have enough tawny in barrel in the first place. They should have learned long ago from Dona Antonia! TFP is a British house, and for decades if not centuries the British have greatl...

Re: Krohns Sold

Of course they kept the stocks. That's all that they were after in the first place. That's why you see all of the old Krohn stocks released as Taylor Single Harvest Tawny instead of as Krohn Colheitas.

They never needed the name or the Quinta, and this sale just proves it.

I think it'd be great. [looks sideways at RWC New York Malmsey sitting on the fridge that's been open since 2009] I'm impressed. I had that for the first time this year, I don't have to save for fifteen years It's an "experiment" that I'm deliberately leaving mostly untouched. Roy has a s...

Re: What have you opened this week?

1977 Gould Campbell Vintage Port I think this might be the first time I've had this from a 750ml bottle? I've been extremely lucky to have had it from magnum at least 4-5 times, and it always blows me away. This bottle wasn't quite at that level, but if it is indicative of where the magnums might be...

Re: Offline in Los Angeles Area -- 2023 version

I think at this point we need to officially postpone. I still haven't purchased airfare as I was waiting for more details, and while I can probably still get a flight down at this late date it would probably be more expensive. I think I'm the only out-of-towner on the list? So hopefully postponing t...

Re: What have you opened this week?

1964 Casa do Douro Colheita, bottled 2003 And how’s it holding up? It needs some air to show its best. I find it great by itself, but that it doesn't stand up well in a tasting. There are some minor bitter/astringent notes that you don't really notice if it's the only Port you're drinking, but whic...

Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?

Just ordered my first batch of 2021 Graham's The Stone Terraces. 6 bottles on pre-order. They won't arrive (in London) until September. Just ordered my second batch. This batch includes a tregnum! So I now have 12 bottles and 1 tregnum headed for my storage facility in London. Retail price in the U...

Re: Your Port collection ... what is the organization like?

LOL... I started with a Danby 56 in ~2009 which looks about the same size as your Eurocave. I then got a full-size Eurocave which I still have, and 2 other full-size refrigerators which have both been replaced by ex-Eric Levine, ex-Stewart Todd Transtherm fridges. All 4 fridges are over 10 years old...

Re: What have you opened this week?

The question that I haven't seen answered yet is whether or not the sale encompassed all 5 quintas. I would assume so, but you never know. "Quinta do Mourao" was just one of five, though it was the namesake of the company. As I understand things, Quinta da Poisa (across the Douro from DOC)...

Well I'll be 66 in November, so 92 would be 26 years away. As I said, I have more than that. Maybe if I live to 95? lol I would not have guessed that you were older than me - you carry it well! Andy - same boat. Re: 20 Year+ Tawnies Recap

I was talking about Port with someone at a barbecue competition this weekend, and when I revealed that I had ~800 bottles they asked if I was going to be able to drink all of that in my lifetime. After a moment's reflection, I had to truthfully answer probably not. I only go through about 2 bottles...

Great idea, John!

If I can't get ahold of an Otima 20, I'll open my last Dona Antonia (Ferreira). Those are the ones that used to be called Duque de Bragança.
