Re: Placemat wizard

Some spacing between the location and time down to the next line with the first house on the taste note page would be great. Julian will need to respond to the point about the spacing on the TN pages - I suspect the spacing is driven by a desire to leave as much space as possible for notes! Mike’s ...

I’ll bring all my 1887s.

You bring all your 1887s.

And we should each bring something to drink.

Re: Youngest never-tasted vintage?

Assuming that 1894 and 1892 are unworthy of the term “general declaration”, my answer might be 1887.

Youngest never-tasted vintage?

Excluding vintages from the most recent decade, what is the most recent, the youngest, general declaration of which you have never tasted a Port?

(Some answers to this question have already appeared elsewhere.)

Re: Free useful thing for those hosting a tasting

There is a list of old placemats , which includes some not made by me. If you upload yours somewhere and send me links (when applicable, also send links to FTLOP/other planning and review threads), I’ll add your placemats to the list. And if the parameters are fiddly for your usage, don’t be shy abo...

Re: Free useful thing for those hosting a tasting

Recently Glenn told me that several American placemat makers prefers the rows on the glasses pages to go bottom-to-top, rather than the standard top-to-bottom. This is not my taste, because the glasses pages then go in the opposite direction to the TN pages, but those who enter directly to digital w...

When there is a review article, please post here a link to it, so that I can add that link to the list of placemats. Thank you.

General rule: always download the latest version. New versions fix bugs; add features; improve default settings.

Re: 1985 30-year retrospective - February 26 - Chicago, IL

1. I don't think flighting is necessary, per se. We should have rows that are somewhat equal so we can decide that night if we want to address in smaller groupings. But I don't have a pre-conceived grouping in mind. This is worthy of consideration. Some hosts like strict disciplined silence. Not me...

Placemats updated . (If the image looks old, try force-reloading the page. Which doesn’t work in Tapatalk.) Currently the Ports are on the page in the same order as in the summary post . Do they want flighting? Should the flights be separated with FlightSeparationLines ? Is the table big enough for...

Re: Free useful thing for those hosting a tasting

For the sake of completeness, there is now a / A3 test PDF , with circle sizes as follows. On /A3 = 420mm×297mm: 13 glasses ⇒ radius ≈ 128.918 pt ⇒ diameter ≈ 3.58″ ≈ 91.0mm 14 glasses ⇒ radius ≈ 122.466 pt ⇒ diameter ≈ 3.40″ ≈ 86.4mm 15 glasses ⇒ radius ≈ 118.978 pt ⇒ diameter ≈ 3.30″ ≈ 83.9mm 16 g...

Re: So how many glasses on U.S. tabloid?

Eric: thank you for testing, and reporting so thoroughly. I suppose I could measure the distances, or Julian could calculate them. Radii and diameters are on the log page, but, more conveniently: 13 glasses   ⇒  radius ≈ 124.259pt  ⇒  diameter ≈ 3.45″ ≈ 87.7mm 14 glasses   ⇒  radius = 123pt     ⇒  d...

Re: 1985 30-year retrospective - February 26 - Chicago, IL

Just “1-7” would work. And I have re-generated the test PDF with the distillation log on /USL = 8½″×11″.

Re: 1985 30-year retrospective - February 26 - Chicago, IL

Enough theory. Test.

At 100% size (not a default of 96%) print the 17"×11" pages of www.jdawiseman.com/2016/20160113_USL2_test.pdf. Take home. Set out the glasses you would use at your tasting. How many glasses are on the last page that is still comfortable to use? That is the answer.
