Re: Santa Eufêmia Very Old Reserve White (best ever white ?)

Hi

I've been able to find a Santa Eufêmia Old Reserve White (without the very), in a local dealer. Would this be the same? It's priced at about $ 50.

Re: Help me describe Taylor's LBV 2002

Morten, I have exactely the same problem. How to describe the smell and taste. I find it extremely difficult to determine what flavors and smell I encounter, and most of the time other peoples descriptions doesn't help. Todd kindly lists some smells and tastes he has experienced, but I have never be...

Re: Niepoot 10YO White Port

Had a chance to try the Niepoort 10Y white tawny this week. It is not on the market here yet, but should come soon according to the dealer. I didn't take any notes, but this port really surprised me. Quite brown in the color (for a 'white' port) and a very nice powerfull sweetness to it (as I rememb...

Well, the way the markets are going these days, Port may be a wise investment, plus you get to enjoy it when you don't cash in :)

Name on cork

Hi

I just had a bottle of Romariz 1991 VP, and when I pulled the cork, it said Morgan Vintage Port on the cork. Why is this?

Hmmm. I really didn't. While you can conjure up funny stereotypes in your mind, this is hardly a laughing matter, is it?

Re: How do you know a Port is "great"???

Hi

For me it's the first impression which is the most important. If I'm immediately swept off my feet and impressed by the wine, then it's great. Wines which I have to 'think' about more and spend more time getting to like, may be very good, but seldom advance to 'great'.

I agree with Glenn. I've hit save a few times as well, and don't generally think it is well positioned (or needed)

Trusting shops to store port

I've recently read an article about how shops are ruining their port by not storing it correctly. Interestingly enough the article appeared in Norwegian media, but featured Danish wine shops (due to the fact that Norway have a monopoly on wine trading (monopolet) and many Norwegians buy wine in Denm...

My first Madeira experience

-at least since I started noticing wine seriously ;-) I bought a bottle of Henriques & Henriques 5Y Madeira which seemed like a good starting point given the price of just over $10 US. My first impression was that it was very dark in colour, which I hadn’t expected in a bottle with only 5 years ...

Re: Who is currently putting Ports away for their children?

I have bought some (not cases) for my daughter who is a 2003, and will pick up whathever 2006 will be released for my son. BUT they will only get it if they develop a serious interest in or respect for wine. It would be too much waste to hand over the bottles to see them being gulped down as a repla...

Re: Economic recession and port prices

Looking through the optimistic official statements, it seems likely that both the UK and USA will experience some degree of recession next year. Whatever one's views on its merits as a vintage, this puts the declaration of 2007 in some doubt. As far as I can make out, I don't think there has been a...

Economic recession and port prices

Not really sure where to post this message, but we’ll see if the moderator allows it here ;-) With the economy in most countries going down the tube, stocks going into bear markets, inflation rising and prices of food exploding all over the world, what will happen to the price of a luxury like port....

Re: 1964 Krohn's Branco Colheita Port

I had the opportunity to try this one a few months back, and I really liked it as well. I spoke to a manager from Krohn about this wine and he claimed that it was actually a barrel (or pipe) which was forgotten in the cellar by accident and when found they decided to bottle and sell it. We can only ...

Re: Birth Year Ports & Madeira

Being from 1973 I'm pretty much screwed when it comes to port, and I rarely see any wines from this year at all. I try to compensate by stocking up for my daughter (2003) and will hopefully be able to find some good SQVP's for my son (2006). That being said, I'd love to have something from 1973 -Lars

I'd like to try a Nacional one day, but I'll also join the queue for anything pre 1900. Just knowing that you're drinking something 100+ years would be amazing.

10 Year Old Tawny Port by Porto Poca Coroa

Light red brown color. Nice tawny nose, with clear vinilla and a bit of alcohol. Sweet taste with quite much alcohol at first which recedes rather quickly and leaves a nice woody flavour with a touch of smoke lasting for 10-15 seconds. Almost no fruit in the taste. Overall a very nice tawny which I ...
