caveat emptor

Ronnie Roots,
You mentioned the 97 Niepoort having a problem. Was it likely VA? I have two half bottles of the 97 Niepoort which were horrible leakers (not heat related) and believe there are more than a few flawed bottles out there.

1987 Warre's

Andy,
Based on the good performance of their wood port from that year (1987 Warre's Reserve Tawny), I think it would be worth a try. Let us know what you find.

1991 Smith Woodhouse?

Has anyone tried this recently? Any TN's would be appreciated.

Colheitas

Alan, You are drinking well these days. Incredible story behind it. Thanks. Elsewhere, I agree with you on the point that colheitas do not hold up well in bottle. I had a similar experience with a 1963 Calem "Quinta da Foz" colheita, which was bottled in 1988 - it was drunk in 2001 and was...

Fonseca question

Is the Fonseca Guimaraens bottling officially considered a SQVP or a VP?

1987 Warre's Reserve Tawny Port

Bottled in 1997. I was expecting more of a "colheita" type tawny with golden brown color, nuts, toffee, etc. What I got was quite different than that - more like an LBV or Ruby port with cherry compote, white pepper, and a hint of bittersweet chocolate on the finish. Good integration of sp...

Warre's 1987

For NYE, I think that I will open a bottle of the Warre's 1987 Colheita.

1991 Graham's Vintage Port -- (375ml)

Decanted for about 3 hours. Had a few sips after Christmas dinner, it was fairly light color with candied cherries and a touch of 'cough syrup' on the nose, along with a tannic, spirity finish. After another hour it began to get in a really nice groove with good integration and balance. 91+ pts

95 Guimaraens

Sounds like the Dow's 95 is just OK, and the 95 Graham's Malvedos is very good. Wasn't the 95 Fonseca Guimaraens supposed to be tops in this vintage? I have seen a few of these lurking around the bins for $40.

Nice evolution

Now that is blow-by-blow description! Sounds as though it was drinking great within the first 6 hrs, then began to tail off.

TNR: Warre's 1990 LBV

I was wondering if any of you out there in port land could tell me whether the Warre's 1990 is a good LBV or not. It is an interesting animal because it says "Bottle Matured" on the label; I assume this means it was a late release bottling. Anyway, I have seen some notes here recently talk...

Re: port basket

Hello Jan, I am from Indiana so I know something about your market there. You have a couple of options - something of a good recent vintage to lay down, or something from an older vintage that you can open and drink together. For something to lay away, maybe a pair of Taylor and Fonseca 375's from t...

1992 Taylor

Hello Richard,
Is the 375 ml on its drinking plateau right now, or do you think it will be peaking more down the road in say 20-30 yrs?
