1977 Fonseca Vintage Port

Port Day! Opened at around 5 pm, decanted. 1. pop n pour - bit of cherry sour, bottle skank, needs some time. 2. 1 hr. Starting to open up. medium ruby, not much bricking on the rim, just a hint of tawny. Balanced flavors coming through, definitely rich berry flavor, currant? berries and whipped cre...

Re: Decanting Question

I have used several types of metal wine funnel/filters and never found them adequate to screen out most fine sediment. Cheesecloth is easy to find in any cooking store and around here, even in supermarkets. It is inexpensive, plentiful, goes a long way and is very sanitary. [cheers.gif] The only on...

Re: HDTV Flat & Large Screen: LED/LCD vs. Plasma

I presume you have rear access to those cabinets Peter and Russ? That is the one key thing on my list for building a house. Yes, mine is a little more poor boy than Peters. Its in a storage room / unfinished part of my basement, and they are on rollers. the wiring comes down from the ceiling area w...

Re: the NFL playoffs

and lets not discuss the clear lateral the Steelers had (it was at least a yard backwards) that the broncos recovered that should of been a turnover and would of salted the game earlier....the refs were really brutal all game long both ways.
Go Broncos! [cheers.gif]

Re: HDTV Flat & Large Screen: LED/LCD vs. Plasma

get a 110 inch screen and a 1080p projector. you will not regret it! :D Don't forget - you need a few things to go along with that setup. http://i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac185/pwmeek/misc/IMG_1062-s.jpg $800k later. I got that too...not 800K...more like 40...two racks worth, and not as pretty as...

Re: Do you or have you ever used an AERATOR on your Ports?

I have a funnel I use (rabbitt brand - best one out there) with a super fine mesh has some sprinklers on the bottom. I use for Port because I am not good at pouring and not getting some sediment out...and I do not have to use any cheesecloth.

Re: Have you ever purchased a vertical of Port?

well I bit the bullet, a bit more than I wanted to spend, but since Roy put his eyes on them, I guess I feel better paying top dollar for this deal.... I got the last one! It will be my first 63 and 66 and 70 vintages.... :D :ftlop: I hope they are in good shape when they get here in the spring! [be...

30 Year Old Tawny Port by Dow's

12/6/2011 bottled in 2007 pop and poured, cellar temperature (54.5F). beautiful light amber / orange color that a tawny should be, almost no alcohol on the nose, apricots / dried fruit up front, nice candy sweetness, not syrupy, smooth medium finish, non existent burn. Although the flavor profile is...

Re: Have you ever purchased a vertical of Port?

Roy, I am definitely interested, these types of deals are why I bought into the newletter to begin with, and something I likely can not easily replicate if the bottles are good shape. I appreciate your inspection of the condition,

Re: Have you ever purchased a vertical of Port?

I would be interested...., a mixed case like that would be nice to have for some of us newbies to have a few drinkers for a mini vertical some night and add some keepers to the collection all at once, as long as the prices are consistent with their condition, and theya re not trying to market it at ...

Re: SAVE YOUR MONEY

Ryan has agreed to accept my bottles back, now just working on price. I was charged full price for 6 bottles (I ordered 18 bottles), but all six leakers were lower price bottles...I am happy to apply the full price only to two of the six, to split this cost. For clarification, it is convenient that ...

Re: SAVE YOUR MONEY

I certainly look forward to it, I do not need to get into a fight here, just want to be treated fairly, and I think its responsible to let others know what happened to me and for others to check their shipments if they were involved. I filed a complaint with paypal as well to protect my investment h...
