Re: 2015 Ferreira, Fonseca, Crasto, Infantado LBVs

Nice Summary!!

How long were they decanted before the tasting?

Crasto result feels atypical, but if that was the experience then so be it---that's why we taste them! As I'm reading you wine summaries I am nodding in general agreement. Well done!

Quinta de Pacheca 20 Year Tanwy!!

Just marvelous as always. Praline paste, toasted orange zest. Gorgeous mouthful, extended finish. From a 500 ml bottle shared with 5 others after a lobster feast--perfect coda to the evening.

Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?

IMG_8927.jpg A 375ml sampling was just delivered. FexEx ground shipping was extremely prompt, but the box was delivered to me upside down and it was obvious as soon as I opened the box all the sediment had gone to the neck/cork area. I hope that hasn't harmed the VP. 1970 Taylor 1977 Gould Campbell...

Re: Niepoort releases 2010 and 2012 Colheita's

I do not quite get 10 and 12 year Colheita's.....Tawny to me does not get really interesting until about 20 years. Of course, that is my palate--but I would prefer producers keep their powder dry a lot longer than 10-12 years.

Re: Lots of new faces ... please introduce yourself

Hi Scott!! I really get the "island" thing. My recco would be to chat it up amongst your friends and you might find a few who'd want to do a tasting. I started a Port Club years ago which was amazing for getting to taste a lot of things. Even a modest club can reap great benefits. You are ...

Re: 10 Years Old or 10 Year Old?

But they are NOT 10 years old. They are meant to taste like a Port of 10 years of Age.

So: Taylor's Port that is intended to taste like 10 Years of age but in reality is a blend with a weighted average of approximately 5 to 20 years...or

Re: What Are Your Favorite White Ports With an Indication of Age

Pricing is a surprise. I'm getting Barao de Vilar and Q do Portal for $18 US...$19.25 with VAT for 500ml. So I do not view as too pricey. Still, appreciate all the thoughts here.

Now on the other hand Kopke and Niepoort are over $50!

Little High Bridge NJ Port Night tonight. Re: Order of tasting.

While I generally agree with all that is said, mainly what it comes down to is how disciplined your tasting regimene is. Managing palate fatigue and staying hydrated are essential. I say that because in blind tastings you cannot keep things in order without giving it all away so you need to work aro...

Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?

So I got the 1997 Carvalhas and it also came with a jump drive--on it is a video on how to use Port Tongs. Pretty neat! A bit hard to to definitively tell from pic, but just a word of caution. Those appear to be more the more decorative ones than the functional ones. You’ll know after one or two us...
