Re: Have you, or do you plan to buy any 2003 Vintage Ports?

I haven't dared try too many more of my 03's... Most of 'em are earmarked for my son, but they are all just so darned expensive here that trying them young is an expensive endeavor. I have a bunch of Offley that I may try one of, although I wasn't overly impressed with it years ago, so perhaps it ju...

Re: Worst Tawny Picks?

I don't get the chance to try an awful large variety of Tawnys, but one that I have always been disappointed by is Grahams 10 and 20 yr olds. Not to say they are bad, they are not... Decent. Just not great or even GOOD... Just disappointing next to many of the other 10 and 20s out there that are com...

Good lord... What an eventful 48 hrs... Didn't make it onto the computer over the past couple of days... I'll try to cover as much with as little verbage as I possibly can. Re: the Raymond hit: when it is slowed down, I can see where many people, including Kerry Fraser, whom I have met and was an id...

Re: What have you opened this week?

Fonseca LBV 2005. Really good. Surprised me with it being an unfiltered LBV but with a T-cap... :?:
Day one was nice, day two was better... Unfortunately there was no day three, it was used to celebrate the Stanley Cup game seven (and unfortunately the madness that followed.)

Re: Tawny Ports - Any variation on different bottling years?

My guess would be the right is the 2011. One thing i have noticed with some of my tawnies that end up sitting in the basement a while, they lose colour.

Re: NV Fonseca 20 Year Old Tawny Port

Right here. It was only open for a few days. That said, I agree that it was showing a bit of oxidation and that could have been a provenance issue as that bottle came as a singular bottle to fill a case made up of a lote of 1977's. It was a 2007 bottle that had a ridiculous retail shop sticker show...

It is cool to share others stories of their first time. I have yet to make it... Three young's and a missus who doesn't really count Port among her loves makes it tough. One day!

Re: Late Bottled Vintage Ports

I do buy a lot of LBVs... Budget and availability usually prevent me from purchasing quantities of VPs. I like the Noval LBV a lot.. I bought three cases of six (of the 2003) and have just one left. I will probably buy a couple of the 2004.. One for longer term drinking, one to try along the way. I ...

Re: Which to pick from the new local selection

The 1976 Warre colheita is a rockin' tawny... I second this recommendation... 76 is my birth year and i try o grab everything that I can from that year... (unfortunately, aside from the Guimaraens, there are only a handful of tawnies worth drinking). I've tried, and loved the Warres. I have one lef...

Re: Do you use the PRO version of winesearcher.com to search for pricing/availability on Ports?

Only free here. It is more to make myself weep when i can compare prices locally to prices in the UK or States. (cost of import/shipping to Canada just isn't worth spending any money on wine searcher, although it seems like. Pretty god free product... I would assume that it stands to reason that the...

Re: When YOU are doing the rating of Port ...

I will not profess to understand fully, nor really care about the wine rating system. I know that there are too many "100 point" wines out there that do not deserve it. I *suspect* then also that there are a ton of wines rated 98 or 99 that probably re deserving of the 100, same as there a...

Re: Boston Bruins

Well, what a Final... The hockey gods have blessed us with a decent series (would be better if not for all this cheap trash about biting, headshots, goalies being run, stupid penalties being taken and the likes) and a fantastic setup for game seven. I am still hoping for the Bruins but fully underst...

Re: Anyone here a technical trainer or teacher?

Yeah I took the VMware training and exam... Pretty tough for a modern day tech exam... I passed then, but my skills have one soft since (don't use it much in the new job) and I dou very much I would pass if i had to take it again today. I think the one credential I respect the most is the CCNP/CCIE ...

Re: Oak (or wood) in Port wine

I agree with most - the oak (which often presents itself as a vanilla flavour) is usually more noticable in the tawnies/colheitas than in the rubies/VP. I have experienced "wood" or "vanilla" in some VPs but also as Moses indicated, it has never been anything to complain about. I...

So, getting an MCT next? They make big dollars. I have hair trigger patience when it comes to teaching someone who is not technical. [dash1.gif] LOL, not a chance... although if I were to take up training, it likely wouldn't be Microshaft-related... too diluted and I just have too many bad things t...

Re: Boston Bruins

Ask yourself if Niklas Lidstrom would have done that, and how he would have defended against Horton. I doubt even Pronger would have gone that far. Uh oh... ask an Edmonton fan's opinion of Pronger??? :Naughty: :Naughty: My own belief is Pronger would take that shot, with the intent to punish. I sa...
