Re: Offley Ruby Port

... What a great desert...it inspired me to try Offley's Tawny, of which I was not as impressed. Aaron, As a relative newbie myself, may I suggest that a nice entry tawny would be a Taylor 20. Think liquid french toast and take a sip. This is the one that peaked my initial interest in Tawny Ports.

A Taylor 10. Just to have a glass each night. Didn't you know it's the best sleeping medication?

Next week maybe it will be something older.

[d_training.gif] My goal is simple: Drink good Port on a regular bases Expand my Port pallet Cellar enough to have a 5 centurys of Port of Noval tawny vertical in 2014 :winepour: In my cellar 2x 1937 Noval Colh...

Re: New Segment for the Newsletter

Guest Corner: Each month there is an article or several very short articles in the news letter from “guest writers.” This section would be open to a myriad of people and topics. There could be limits such as maximum number of words, timeliness of subject, and of course would have to pass the editor...

Re: What do you drink besides wine and Port?

I like all of the traditional mixed drinks such as margarita, Long Island Ice Tea (traditional with just alcohol and a splash of coke), martini, Irish Coffee, etc. While I like and drink all of the traditional drinks, I like to give new restaurants tests. The drink test has guidelines like this: Not...

Re: The Reserve Ruby Taste Off

Ok, so here is a question on the Great "Reserve Ruby Taste Off."

Is every one going to decant or "pop-n-pour?" If decanting, how long?

Lars,

If you could have just listed that 12 hours earlier: [dash1.gif]

Carl and I may have delayed our trip back from the seattle area for a few more hours and took then off your hands, or tried with a little negotiating.

Re: Cigars and port

While I enjoy a good cigar on occasion, I am not a fan of cigars with Port. The cigar destroys the flavors in Port and I'd much rather have a nicely acidic Madeira with a cigar instead. I think the whole cigar/Port thing was a product of the "old-days" when wealthy old men would retire af...

Re: Opening a Tawny and a Vintage Port together ...

I suppose you guys would have a ruby , a tawny, a sauternes, a late harvest Alsace SGN , an Italian vin santo, and a vintage madeira with that mixed grill breakfast. [kez_11.gif] I was thinking a Bloody Mary would be a better pairing. [kez_11.gif] Oh and not just a Bloody Mary, but a BACON Mary. :d...

Croft has a bunch of suggestions on their website . Sandeman had some general Port cocktail recipes on their site too, last time I checked. Thank you Eric, Most of those are what I expected. (WAIT - Derek hide your eyes) Another things that I thought of that was also on the Sandeman's site w...

Re: Opening a Tawny and a Vintage Port together ...

Ok, just finished a glass of the 82 that we opened up last night, and on an empty stomach to boot. So that last post should be ignored. :drunk: For me in all cases, if it’s likely that the bottles would have a majority of the Port left in them I would go with the VP first. From what I've read the VP...

Re: Opening a Tawny and a Vintage Port together ...

Ok, since I'm a  be kind if I'm thinking about this wrong. I think the most logical way would be to start from youngest to oldest: Take a nice long sniff of each, filling my head with the essence of each Port in turn, then a few sips of each, repeat until my taste buds decided what gets fin...

Re: Do you feel this is hypocrisy or not?

I have very mixed , very strong opinions on this subject. Those opinions range from there should be absolute 100% truth in advertising (list everything that is scientifically measurable about the wines) to if it gets someone to try it, all the more power to them. Not to boar all of you old time Port...

Re: Good Port based mixed drinks for Mother' Day Brunch

There must be many Port based mixed drinks out there already. What is your favorite…? My favourite Port based mixed drink would be: 10ml of Croft 1945 + 10ml of Croft 1945 + 10ml of Croft 1945 + 10ml of Croft 1945 + 10ml of Croft 1945 + 10ml of Croft 1945. Mix all of these ingredients into one glas...

Good Port based mixed drinks for Mother' Day Brunch

Yes, I know doing a mixed drink from a good Port is like … well … being a heathen. :Naughty: But then again I’m looking to convert as many non-Port drinkers as possible before Port Day 2013. [d_training.gif] What a better way to start than to come up with a few Port drinks that will go well with Mot...

Re: Poll: Super Bowl Beer, Wine, Port, other?

Because the first word in your poll is “IF,” I had to vote for Port. If we were not going to be on the road, I would most likely have experimented with some Port mixed drinks.
