TN: 2016 Niepoort Poeirinho Bairrada

2016 Niepoort, 100% Baga grape from their Quinta de Baixo vineyards. 11.5% abv. Very delicate cherries with a tannic backbone. Shy at first, then opens up with air but still retains that restrained fruit profile. Best comparison would be old world Pinot Noir from long ago. Deceivingly long finish ju...

Quinta de Santa Eufemia 30 Year Old White Port

Bottled 2017. Bought June 2017 at the Quinta. Viscous apricots are balanced by marked acidity on the palate. That sweetness turns into a dusty old wood dryness as it transitions to a very long finish. A remarkable mix of two different profiles wrapped into one. This is now throwing some light sedime...

Re: 1964 Dow's Reserve Port -- Colheita

Port rarely "falls off the edge" like dry wine can do. However, it tends to get rather soft and cloying and loses that sharpness it had when bottled. I also find the super fine sediment that makes an old bottling cloudy affects the mouthfeel, and not in a good way for me. Makes the texture...

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Scandal rocks Madeira

I will let you Siri or Google your way to the actual story, as I want to avoid commenting on a story this is still in the midst of breaking, but the "Governor" of Madeira, that Portuguese call the "President" of Madeira, has been arrested today. Also the President of the Municip...

Um, I thought they just sold off that last one, at least the name.
They did. however, the interview could have taken place before and it was just now being published.

A rather short interview, but a few bits of trivia many may not know.

Re: Port in a Coffee Mug

Interesting that it's imported from England, not Portugal. I don’t see a Selo on the bottle. Perhaps exported from PT in bulk and bottled there, then shipped over? I thought that became illegal? Good catch. Just saw the 1973. Perhaps the UK importer forwarded into and UK sounds better than saying i...

Re: Port in a Coffee Mug

I've wandered around cruise ships drinking Tawny Port out of an opaque coffee mug. You're not supposed to drink your own alcohol outside of your room, but no one suspects a cup of coffee no matter the time of day. On a ship they generally don't care. Everyone has a drink, so walking around wi...

TN: 2019 Quevedo Family Mos Vineyard Douro

50% Tempranillo 50% Touriga Franca. Black stone fruit, tar, medium tannins with a bitterness on the mid and back palate. Overall, light/medium complexities with some noticeable, but not obtrusive, heat from the 15% listed ABV. A medium length finish rounds it out. I think this is only available from...

It’s regarding CellarTracker not FTLOP so our helpdesk, as good as they are, can’t help.

Re: Tappit Hen vs. Tregnum

Glenn,
The neck shape doesn't have anything to do with a traditional TH. It's the very top of it. That large overgrown rounded bulb. Also, the old ones were handmade and were not always exactly the same volume. They ranged from about 2L to 2.3L, if memory serves me.
