Re: Getting Port to Ontario

Perhaps an Ontario resident could place the order for you, with a delivery to Ontario, and be reimbursed by you.

Re: Ferreira Duque de Braganca 20 Year Old Tawny Port

F20 is an amazing tawny. We (Gang of Port) have found it to change over time after opening. Most bottles (they vary) open very hot (alcoholic) and then mellow over the first few days. After about three days they seem to reach a plateau and then seem much the same for a week or so, and then "si...

Spam (the canned meat), X-day (Church of the Sub-Genius), P. T. Barnum, "Goose" Gossage, Warren Oates, etc.

Type in your birthday (as in July 5) on Wikipedia for a list as long as your arm. Pick a few.

Re: Noob question about crumbling corks

<snip>For crumbly corks, I would recommend the use of an Ah-So, a two prong things that is fairly easy to learn to use and become proficient with. Just don't let Peter M. from :ftlop: convince you to sharpen those prongs! [cheers.gif] <snip> Aw, c'mon, Roy. I only recommended that for people who di...

Re: Do you remember....

I966 Graham's at a casino comp dinner. I spent the next several years trying to recapture that nutty flavor. Unfortunately, I didn't know the difference between types of port (vp/lbv/ruby vs tawny/colheita) and spent a great deal of money on vintage ports (which take a lot of time and money before t...

Re: Warning other drivers about police speed traps

Here's what is odd. I've searched both published and unpublished rulings for this case and found nothing in the 11th District Appeal Court log for it. So A little more digging found out this was only a preliminary injunction. Which means it hasn't gone to trial yet and no final ruling has been made...

Very nice Quad-Copter filming. Also note there is an appeal for help for the family.

sorry for anyone that had a ridiculous dose of porn as the landing page during our down time. can you quantify what is a "ridiculous dose of porn?" For some folks it would be "any"; for other folks it might be an unstoppable series of pop-up windows. (I've seen both when a URL f...

Re: How do you refer/pronounce FTLOP??

Eff-tee-EL-oh-Pee (all caps primary stress; single cap secondary stress)

This (with the useful redirecting from ftlop.com) also tells people the URL of the website without further elaboration. Making it into a pronounceable acronym obscures that.

Re: How to open a wine bottle wo a corkscrew

:scholar: Incidentally, this same effect is why cavitation (real cavitation, not just air entrainment) erodes boat propellors. Tiny bubbles (cavities) of vacuum form on the low-pressure side of high-performance boat propellors, and when they collapse, the water rushes back with enough impact to goug...

Re: How to open a wine bottle wo a corkscrew

The bottle has to be tipped down enough that there is solid wine against the cork at time of impact. The bottle stops, the wine keeps moving forming a partial vacuum under the cork. Then the vacuum sucks the wine back, which hits the cork and drives it out a little way. Repeat until you can get hold...

Re: Why Is Ferreira 20 Year So Much Better Than Niepoort 20 Year?

Price is why I used to prefer Warre's Nimrod (a tawny with no particular designation, but similar (to me) to the F20). Nimrod used to retail (back when they still made it) in the low $30 range while the F20 was well over $50. :beat: I still have one bottle left (of several hundreds), but I expect th...

Re: Lost & Found

Well, if any of you have not tried CellarTracker, let me recommend it. It's really a lot easier than you might think. Most of the wines you have are already in their database, so you only have to enter a few words from the label to get a short list to choose from. Pick one of them and then you just ...
