Re: Vintage Port up for auction
Tom I have been going to tenths in the last 15 years and can say that the Port aging is definitely not a two for one time line and really varies from producer to producer and vintage to vintage. The great thing about collecting is the tracking of your wines as they age and any changes to your origin...

Generally popped corks can be associated with high temperatures encountered in its shipping or (God forbid) storage (usually accompanied by leakage but not always) or high altitude, non-climate controlled transit, like driving from california to nevada to go snow skiing. Take care

Re: A beginner's cellar on a budget
Espen I have been collecting wines for 35 years and urge you to buy at least two bottles at a time, four is better so that you can try one now and make your evaluation as to when to try the next one(s). With VP you are usually safe to use five or ten year increments if they are young. I agree with t...

It is really interesting to do it scientifically by measuring how much of each was blended and to try different mixes, just beware of AIADD (alcohol induced attention deficit disorder).
Have fun

Re: Port Collecting Fanaticism
Have to balance the "younger" nutters. I am past 60 and collect the corks, the bottles take up too much space and obviously I keep my tasting notes (on 3 by 5 index cards). I did labels in my early collecting years but that got to be too cluttered. I keep all the corks not just Port corks ...

I last had this port in March 2002. It was great. Thick and rich nose of plums and currants. Some raisin in the nose/taste, excellent body and clean flavors with definite tannins present, great sweetness. Luckily I have a few left to enjoy!

Andy Looking forward to it! I believe you have access to my e-mail address. If not let me know. I am looking forward to my family get together at Easter when I will be opening one of my last 1977 Dow. I will be sure to post my first tasting note describing it. I follow Roy's decanting guide and beli...

A quiet week for me as well.
Smith Woodhouse 2003 VP $ 37
Taylor 2003 LBVP $ 22
Taylor, Dow, and Graham 2007 VPs, around $ 80 per bottle, for my niece, I won't see them when they mature but it is nice to think that she and her husband (and maybe family) will.

Re: Do you ever blend Port at home?
Hi I just joined. I am 61 years old and have been collecting and drinking wines (including ports of course) for 35 years. I routinely open too many table wines, sometimes just to see how they are aging and blend leftovers. It is particularly fun to try to blend out problems (like blending an low aci...
