Glenn, et al.
Do you feel like the '87 Kopke was on an upslope or a plateau?

Re: Got responsibility / need guidance / 1985 Offley Vintage
Rune,
I had the '85 Offley at a tasting a few years back. I would not expect too much from it. From memory, it's fully mature with a pink rim and very, very sweet nearly cloying. That said, it may end up being a good intro to persons unfamiliar with a real VP with bottle age.

2000 Offley LBV Port
Driven cork. Thought it would be best to decant, and did so, only to find zero sediment through cheesecloth. Likely a filtered LBV, which sat in the decanter for 6 hours. 1st night: Plenty of sweet black cherry fruit, concentrated but fairly one-dimensional. 2nd night: Thick, viscous, and cloyingly ...

Re: 2008 The Pines Sweet Sierra port -- by Medici
Hi Andy, This is made by Peter Rosback of Sineann. You can look up the history of the The Pines vineyard on the Sineann website. Yes, a 100 yr old zin vineyard in The Dalles along the Columbia River. Peter/Sineann shares space at Hal Medici's winery in Newberg, and I think the deal is that Peter mak...

Re: NEW YEARS EVE PORTS and other wines ...
My wife and I will be going out to dinner New Years night, and hopefully savoring a bottle of 2002 Louis Jadot Puligny-Montrachet, Domaine Duc du Magenta, Clos de la Garenne.

1998 Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage Port
Hints of kirsch, plumskin, confectioners sugar, and briar on the nose. This is ridiculously youthful, with massive concentration and sweetness, fruit and heat, and some chewy, fine-grained tannins that kick in on the finish. Had a glass over several nights. Good overall balance, which bodes well for...

Re: The horrible concrete-like wax capsules!
While we are on the subject, I do have one of those nightmare bulb plastic caps. What is the best way of getting rid of it and exposing the cork (if not tonging the bottle)?

How about James Suckling? An excellent port aficianado, would be good to have him on the show sometime.

David,
Yes, the importer was Richard Sajbel of Palo Alto. Do you have any further insight on this bottle?

Re: Port- as a comfort in my old age
Dale,
I sensed you all take a shine to Warre's and tannins. Then I would be remiss not to recommend the Warre's Late Bottled Vintage Ports from 1994, 1995, and 1999. Traditional and unfiltered style, can be enjoyed now or later.
