Re: Your Port collection ... what is the organization like?

I use an Excel workbook that contains: 1. A wish list of bottles I am searching for 2. A record of everything I taste, with dates, tasting notes and scores 3. An inventory list sorted by age and type (Vintage, TWIOA, Colheita, LBV, Crusted, etc) 4. A fridge plan mapping out where all of my bottles a...

Re: What have you opened this week?

S. Leonardo Velhissimo Tawny Port opened last night for a handful of aficionados. Thank goodness I still have another bottle ... the first one disappeared WAY to quickly. It held up to the hype and my expectations, which were pretty high.

Re: What have you opened this week?

2003 Taylor LBV. Down to my last few bottles, and still drinking very well. Smooth and silky, fruit (cherry) dominating. Nice medium finish. Will be sorry to see these go. I wish they were not bottled with a t-cork. I would love to hang onto one of these for another 10-15 years to see how they are. ...

Re: 1985 Barros vintage port

Glad to hear that this showed nicely. I had a similar experience to yours, but mine was about 6 years ago. Similar impressions then, and mine also improved over about a 6 hour decant. I would try this again ... at the right price.

Re: Tawny vs. older VP for those new to Port

I find that this is really dependent on the person. Some like Tawnies, some like VPs. Most have at least a moderate preference for one versus the other. I actually keep a spreadsheet, as any well-balanced and sane person would do, to keep track of individual preferences. That way, I can serve what t...

I would go with a fairly young LBV.

Feist 20 Year Old Tawny Port

Bottled 2006 Sadly, my last bottle of this. Very nice 20 year tawny. Blind, I would have guessed it to be a 40 year. Deep amber color with 1/4 inch clear rim. Aroma primarily dark molasses with a hint of alcohol. Flavors of toasted walnuts, honey and molasses. A little marzipan and a little heat. Ve...

I'll open soon a Fonseca 1970 and a Dow 1977 magnum (i'm scared... i'll see). I'll open in about 2 weeks Taylor F. Single Harvest 1964. I have 3 Taylor F. Vergellas Vinha Velha 2011 (i drank one last year... awesome). I have some "big bottles" that will wait too. I tell you this so if you...

Re: Recommended shops in the DC area?

Hi Jeremy, I am fairly close to you. MacArthur's is good, and occasionally you can get good deals from them. Schneider's of Capitol Hill is pretty good, also. Otherwise, Total Wine can offer some good deals on younger Ports. But, the best selection in the region is in my cellar :winebath: If you are...

Re: March Madness: The next Port Buying Op - details.

I just picked up mine from UPS a few minutes ago. The 100 YO bottles are beautifully packaged. All going into the cellar, now, EXCEPT one of the 40 YO bottles. That one gets opened tonight. I am downright giddy!

Thanks, Roy. What a spectacular buying opPORTunity.
