Re: Quinta Do Crasto 2011 Old Wines Reserva - $28

Last year WTSO offered the 2010 on 3 different occasions, I believe.

If that is any indication, there will be other opportunities to get the 2011.

Got a case. Had been waiting for this offer to come through. Seems they offer the Old Vines Reserve every year during Q4.

Re: Movies with Port?

Madeira! I keep telling the story of how it appears in Gone With the Wind, where this lady in the south offers his guests some from the "the last bottle of my finest Madeira".

That stretch of the movie should be played over and over again in all Madeira lodges.

Re: Old Ports after opening-ageability

John, do you keep them in an open decanter? Or do you move them back into the bottle and put a stopper?

Re: What have you opened this week?

Taylor 2000 VP - Lovely and lots of berries still showing but just not my thing while this young.

Have another 6 bottles that I'll be happy to pass on to a willing buyer, should there be one out there.

Re: 3-4 value ports for a nice beginner-oriented tasting

Congrats on getting married. And on making Port such a large part of it! My two cents... We're thinking of having 3-4 different options for people to sample. Our thoughts now were to have one ruby, one tawny, and once nicer vintage port. We're looking to get bottles that are nice enough for everyone...

Re: Aging Potential - Douro DOC wines

Bought about a case of 2003 Alentejo and Douro Calabriga a few months back for $6/bottle and really enjoying them. Fear they might have been standing at the store for several years, but even then, prefer them to younger wines...

Re: Current Subscriber's Buying Op

Great offer. I would rate it a 10 on all accounts. My only concern was when to send the email. The offer opened on Sunday, so I sent it at 12:03 am on Sunday, East coast time. I just noticed that they are in the West coast, so I am a little confused about whether I am ok or not. When should we be h...

Re: The World of Fine Wines - Restaurant Wine List Awards

Hearth really has an amazing list. My wife took me there for my bday last year for that reason and it didn't disappoint. IIRC, less so wrt to Port but more so wrt Madeira. They had some nice stuff from the 60s. Remember they had something like 20 pages of Rieslings... Believe I posted their wine les...

Re: Are you spending more on Port now than you did in the past?

Hardly bought any between Mar and present... looking to get some through the buyers op that Roy put together. Found that I was buying far more than I could drink - good VP i drink 2-4 bottles a year, mostly to celebrate specific occasions, why have dozens of bottles sitting around needing my care an...
